5th control Deficiency as per Kaplan 2020-21 kit:
“In addition, the notification of the payroll increase was via email and the payroll supervisor was able to make changes to the payroll standing data without further authorisation. This increases the risk of fraud or errors arising within payroll.”
professor nowhere in the question is it mentioned that payroll supervisor amends the standing data using the revised wage suggested by HR, so i mean how could we expected to spot this?
I don’t have a Kaplan kit but this is taken from the original question – my words in [ ]:
“In January 20X7, the wage rate paid [past tense – i.e. it happened, they were paid] to employees was increased [past tense – it happened, there was an increase] by the HR director and he notified payroll by emailing the payroll supervisor.”
So in the absence of further information – which would have to be given if relevant – employees have de facto received more money. I agree it is implied rather than explicit – but for this to have happened, the payroll supervisor has upped wage rates (i.e. in the standing data).
You are not expected to spot every possible deficiency – there will always be more than are asked for – so don’t worry if you don’t spot the less obvious ones. That said, you should ask yourself “what is the relevance of this sentence”? If you can’t think of anything at all, then you might be overlooking something.
