May I know what is the difference between Executive Information System and Decision Support System.
March 22, 2013 at 8:05 am #120307Some of the difference is marketing, I think. If you market something as EIS you can put a high price on it because it’s for ‘executives’! More seriously, I always think of a DSS as a financial model on a spreadsheet. It won’t tell you what next year’s budget should be but it’s great at letting you ‘play around’ with the figures to help you make a decision.
An EIS provides information needed by executives to make more strategic decisions at the top of the management pyramid. Usually EISs have:
Links to the internet and external databases (external information is very important in top decisions)
The ability to drill down in company information. For example: double click on group receivables and you can see each subsidiary’s figure, double click on one of these and you see the full list of receivables.
A flexible interface allowing information to be found and displayed, often graphically as graphics can draw your attention much better to trends.March 22, 2013 at 9:56 am #120312understood. Thanks gromit.
