@Gabriel lol………We are talking in hypothetical BIG if statements We’ve already spent quite a bit of time being gloomy about how difficult the exams were, we need some positivity.

    @Kibalka
do you find you put yourself under added pressure for the final paper? Personally the intensity of knowing this is the final hurdle is overbearing.

@seagoat I know you can’t enter for exams without paying your subscription, does it prevent you from getting your results in any way.

@Abdul – what I meant was when they had seen that I have not paid Admin Fee on time it wouldn’t mean instant say -5 marks to my Papers πŸ™‚

@seagot lol – hopefully not, that said these fees are important to ACCA. Just out of interest has anyone looked @ ACCA financial report; these guys are minted and fast exceeding revenue expectations.

I got the reminder for admin fee too but I’m not going to pay any heed to it. If I’ll pass I will pay otherwise if I’ll fail on 8th Feb then that maybe the end of my ACCA journey as I cannot afford, financially, to re-sit!

ACCA should consider that some of their students are from developing countries and cannot keep affording to pay in Pounds. The exchange rate is just too high

@Gabriel I definitely think that they could lower the cost but more notably provide concessions as in your circumstance.

ACCA is meant to be a non-profit organisation but it makes a hell of lot of money, and it is sitting on a ample cash reserve. What odes it do with all this money? The only visibility of ACCA I have is the random but feckless emails saying how attractive it is to employers. My perception was that it was focused around aiding these developing countries and student.

In all honesty if I could have my time over, I would’ve opted for CIMA as it is seen as more prestigious in my work environment and it seems to better equip people for management. Plus have a look @ the CIMA pass marks; hell of a lot better.

    Abdul I agree regarding CIMA.

In addition they have had 4 sittings a year for a while now and I believe if you do appeal your mark you get to see the actual paper with marker comments as opposed to the waste of space e-mail we get.

@Gabriel @Abdul, Apparently, At ACCA, There seems to be a void at Management Level with Examiners totally independent and unaccountable. Course Coordinators may not be there or have minimal control.
There must be a internal watchdog which can regulate the whole examination process from skills to professional Modules.
At professional Level, Examiners like In the case of P5 are too eccentric. Their perceived stubbornness is in itself an advertisement of reducing value of ACCA qualification.
As we have put our all out efforts in the paper we can sense that ultimately it’s the utopia of examiner’s Mind that we can not access.
ACCA must rethink its strategy and put emphasis on course structure rather than make us solve the cross word puzzles or how to get out of labyrinth.
My message to Management at ACCA is to rethink its strategy of conducting exams and in checking the written scripts that must adhere to understood norms of course structure rather then perceived notions of examiners.

@anarchy99 and all other @abdul I think we should all get together and sign some sort of reform petition online or all write to ACCA, nothing is going to change if we are just going to talk among ourselves. @Elia-Shar-eK do you work? How many years experience do you have? I ask this because P4/P7 knowledge is hardly used in the real world so it really doesn’t matter. The fact is that CIMA has a better study programme

@abdul yes I recently got the e-mail for the subscription fee reminder but they don’t even send a hard copy “student accountant magazine”. They just send it via e-mail. The docket also we need to print, no support from ACCA. So what do they actually do with the subscription fee?

    quite wrong

ACCA/ICWAE as a professional achieve in a 1 financial year more than CIMA . Reason for this very simple, we are not required to work as an accountant all year along. We can record minutes of BOD meetings , compile records , file WHT / sales tax returns , salary returns for employees .. i mean we can whole breadth of activites all year long … in this way our market prominance we never go down…

in contrast to this, CIMA can do all this too but with 1 very huge difference , that is accounting .

Add too that knowledge of p4/p7.. CIMA does not have many facets unlike ACCA /icwae

What makes me laugh is that the administrative review content commences with the following statement “Administrative reviews allow ACCA to ensure transparency and fairness” and it concludes with the following “candidate answer booklets remain the property of ACCA and will not be returned under any circumstances”. Contradiction if ever I heard one. Transparency my foot!

That last sentence sounds more like something a 3rd world despot might say.

My 6 year old could see the illogicality of that last statement. How would she know where she went wrong if I would say to her “you’ve failed your test………………but I won’t tell you where you went wrong”.

This kind of stance if the catalyst of conspiracies, and mine is that they mark exams so rushed that they would be taken to the cleaners if ever anyone had sight of there script. Hence why people fail when they are certain they have passed and vice versa.

And as far as the imminent increased sittings the outcome will be the following:

    > More people will qualify, which will dillute what is already a second rate qualification
    >ACCA will re-think their strategy and increase the pass mark to 55 and then 60; I’m not Nostradamus but mark my word.

Nothing in this world is for free.

I agree with the stance that if we fail an exam we should have the right to see our marked paper to see where we went wrong. That way we would prepare better for a re-sit and hopefully not make the same mistakes again. Maybe ACCA wants students to keep re-sitting and fill their pockets, otherwise there is no sense in not allowing the students to see a copy of their marked script.

They should allow the students to atleast get an e-copy of the marked script, if they want go ahead charge a small fee for it.

I’m willing to sign a petition or send a joint email with you guys if you are upto to it. Maybe the Admins or Tutors of these forums can help us reach the proper person in this regards???

@Unstopabl that sounds like a really great idea…….. I suggest we speak with the opentuition tutors and even use there website as an online tool for students to sign a script disclosure petition. It will benefit them also in that the PR it would give them as a sight the facilitates true change. Plus the traffic flow may even increase their advertisement potential.

I cannot see a single student not wanting to access their scripts, even those who have passed. I see any petition being big (am talking 5 figure sums) and there can be little resistance to such overwhelming numbers.

Any volunteers to champion this initiative?

The best exposure to our suggestion would be given to us by the Admin and Tutors of OT.

Message sent to @opentuition_team let’s see their response.

@unstopabl3 honestly, as Open Tuition, of course, Admin believes the marked exam paper should be opened for review err sent back to every student after the exam

to be honest, Admin was thinking about setting up instant poll about this. But we know what the result would be πŸ™‚ what student would not want it????

but before you push this issue further to ACCA with petitions.. πŸ™‚
don’t forget ACCA is a professional exam, and you do not have to become ACCA if you do not like the rules πŸ™‚

ps, if you remember OT did run students campaign to have exams 4 times a year.. and after 2-3 years.. it is happening.. so.. even if ACCA would agree to change the rules.. and sent back exams.. it won’t happen tomorrow!
you will by then be qualified.. and not bothered about it anymore..

so,.. maybe it’s time to forget about this idea? πŸ™‚

I’m up for it. I agree with open tuition team that ACCA is way powerful and it’s either their way or the highway but they should be more fair on students. And provide more resources to enhance the ‘P’ level pass rates. I even suggest that the topic of this discussion should be the subject of an article in the next monthly PQ magazine

open tuition team then let’s fight for the future generation of ACCA students but ACCA must be aware of student’s challenges.

Really the petition should be to make exams more accessible as reviewing your failed script won’t bring much benefit as the same paper will NEVER appear again
