Hi, Ken, I want to enquiry about the style of answer such as the table form. Is it acceptable for the marker to give me credit in case all the content are relevant to the question requirement ask for?

I don’t really understand what you are asking.

Marks will be given for relevant content. Marks will not be given for irrelevant content. Irrelevant content will not directly lose you marks but you will have spent time creating that content and it might lose you some professional skills marks as, for example, the report you have produced will not be as good and as focused as it could have been. For example:

“An evaluation is a balanced appraisal to determine the impact of a course of action, for example, changing an organisation’s reward system. Part of that is to demonstrate reasoned judgement to consider all relevant factors applicable, decide what to prioritise and then come to a suitable and justified conclusion.”

Ken, I really understand what you have mentioned. Here, if the question asks for critically evaluate the pros and cons of ABM and VBM. And there are criteria for similarities and differences. In case I draw a table and answer in table format like this.

    |————————————————————————————————————————-|
    | Criteria | ABM | VBM | | | | |
    | —————————————————|————————–|——————————————| |Pros | | |
    | Enhance shareholder’s L.T. interest | cost reduction | increase Company’s |
    | | by ABC | value EVA, DCF |
    |—————————————————|—————————|—————————————–|-
    |Cons | | |
    |Drivers identified | cost drivers | value drivers |
    | | difficult to be | difficult to be |
    | | identified | identified |
    |—————————————————-|—————————|—————————————-|

Does the above presentation style satisfy the examiner’s requirements?

Besides, the CBE tool button can let you present the answer in the numbered list. Is it also advantageous for me to gain credits instead of headings and subheadings although this style of presentation is highly recommended by the examiner?

Sorry! Ken, I do not realize the consequence of transmitting the table format would be a mess. Please look closely at the criteria, both ABM and VBM act as headers and their related content.

A table of pros and cons for each approach could satisfy the examiner, but be sure to fully explained each table entry, particularly as you might be addressing your answer in report format to a member of the management team.

For example, if you are saying that ABC can reduce costs, you should say something like:

“ABM uses activity based costing which identifies the activities which cause costs and leads to an understanding of how those costs can be better controlled by management”.

Maybe you would have written something like rhat and were very brief in your question for the sake of efficiency.

Bullet point type answers (ie one or two words or so) are rarely enough and you should always explain things fully. Using full sentences encourages you to do that and to produce better answers.
