Hello guys,
Does anyone know the procedure to get a second review on a failed RAP?
September 25, 2014 at 12:52 pm #196412Hi,
We had previously assisted a student with her appeal. The email address we submitted her appeal to was acca@brookes.ac.uk. That seems to be the only contact address given.
However, please do note that the reasons for appeal must be solidly argued. In our case, the examiner had failed the student for having a powerpoint presentation of “only 16 slides”. That was successfully appealed, as the student had stacked lots of information on the 16 slides, and the presentation had in fact exceeded the 15 minutes given.
Regards,
Adrian Tan

whats the outcome will come up?October 3, 2014 at 7:25 am #203296Hello,
I dont know if it will affect your nexg submission. I submitted my appeal the day before yesterday and got confirmation yesterday that it was successful. My status report was updated immediately. As said above by learningluminarium, you need to send an email to accab@brookes.ac.uk. detailing the reason for failure and why you disagree with it. It will then be passed to a chief moderator that will make the decision. If you thinking of submitting it, you will have to do so as soon as possible.October 3, 2014 at 7:56 am #203303@amb222 – congratulations – what had they failed you on?
@ts1110 – no any appeal will not affect a subsequent resubmission. UK universities are objective and not vindictive as their decisions are open to scrutiny by a higher regulating body. Appeals have to show that the Assessment Criteria were not correctly applied.
October 3, 2014 at 9:49 am #203307@trephena- my companies have different currencies so I had converted the comparator financial statement using a fixed rate for the 3 years. the marker had said it was a fatal flaw and failed me on 4 different categories for the same reason.
October 3, 2014 at 10:24 am #203313@amb222 – Thanks for your prompt reply as it:
(a) is always useful to know what kind of things succeed on appeal, and
(b) that the ‘system’ works and that some appeals succeed(So the 4 areas were Understanding, Application, E & A & Presentation of the findings presumably?)

congrats
thanks for reply.
I sent email for review on 29 sep and got email from OBU . Obu informed that my appeal has been sent to one of the academic staff for review on 3rd of October but still did not get back from them.
hoping I will get positive result as I m certainly sure the marker didn’t see the first marker comments when marked my rap.
thank u again for your replyApril 2, 2015 at 2:56 pm #239928Hi…has anyone appealed before?I’ve sent email to OBU and it’s been a week and I am still waiting.Anyone knows how long do I have to wait?
April 8, 2015 at 9:21 pm #240565@Allop – These things take time. First they have to consider whether there are reasonable grounds for an appeal i.e. have the assessment criteria been incorrectly applied? Please note this is the only grounds for an appeal as just because you disagree with the marker does not mean an appeal will be considered.
Where an appeal will be considered then it has to be remarked and the grounds for failing reviewed by the chief moderator and his senior marking team. I would estimate that 2 – 3 weeks in most circumstances from what I have been told. In extreme cases it can take several weeks if the appeal involves complex issues particularly as some of the markers have lecturing and other university duties apparently that they have to fit in around it.
April 9, 2015 at 3:28 pm #240669@trephena-Thanks for your reply!
I received an e-mail saying there will be someone to review my result and he will be taking a few days to look at my queries. This is the 2nd week and I’m still waiting.April 9, 2015 at 3:34 pm #240671Then this is par for the course
April 10, 2015 at 11:07 am #240749@Allop – Can I check with you whether the respond you received was regarding them confirming receipt of appeal and that it has been passed to the appeal officer?
@trephena – If the email received was that it has been passed to the appeal officer, does that mean the grounds for appeal have been accepted and will now be submitted for remark?April 10, 2015 at 1:57 pm #240760@CBK1 – I can’t say with authority. I believe the senior OBU administration staff possibly look at what has been failed and the marker comments. If it is clear to them that it is a ‘bad’ fail and/or the grounds for fail are clear cut e.g. word count has been exceeded or both marker and moderator (a senior marker who checks failed work) say the referencing is poor then there would be no grounds for appeal. (Exceeding the word count is an infringement of the rules and there is no appeal against academic judgment).
However such staff can only filter out the obvious cases where an appeal would never succeed. I would imagine where the original marker passed the RAP and the moderator decided it was a marginal fail it is possible the staff decide to refer it to the appeals officer to decide if there are grounds for an appeal. Nevertheless I was under the impression that in the case just cited a super-moderator (marker with 10+ years experience) will have confirmed the moderator’s fail grade (or overturned it and given a pass) before the results are released. So normally unless as The Learning Luminarium point out there is a robust case that the Assessment Criteria have been incorrectly applied or the rules not infringed (e.g. student failed for using old financial statements but they did use the latest available at the submission date) just because a case goes to the Appeals office does not mean an appeal will (a) be considered or (b) be successful
April 10, 2015 at 7:14 pm #240811@CBK-1-I believe it has been passed to the appeal officer.
October 2, 2015 at 4:07 pm #274696please help me to know all the stages an appeal passes before its successful
April 4, 2017 at 9:15 am #380057hi, i have failed on topic 8, the reason given : Section 3: Evaluation of information, analysis and conclusion ………………. I have seen some of my friends with similar analysis have given pass, my mentor also say so. I like to know whether i should go for appeal for second review?
April 4, 2017 at 10:40 am #380071There are no grounds for appeal against academic judgement alone.
If you can show the assessment criteria were not applied appropriately then that can be cited as grounds for an appeal. So consult the Assessment Criteria in Appendix 1 and if you decide to appeal it must be framed against those criteria. It will not be sufficient just to say your friends’ work was passed but not yours as any appeal will only look at what you submitted not theirs.
October 1, 2018 at 10:59 pm #476101Has anyone successfully appealed and passed their project?
How long does the process take?October 2, 2018 at 7:18 am #476107Of course some appeals have been successful however you need to show that the assessment criteria have not been applied correctly. A disagreement with academic judgment is not adequate grounds for an appeal.
Just because you think the fail was not appropriate is insufficient and your appeal will be dismissed if you do not provide evidence of how it was not marked in accordance with the rules and assessment criteria. (Every fail is reviewed so effectively both the marker and senior marker felt it did not meet the minimum for a pass so you will need to demonstrate that it did)
I have no idea how long it takes but although some appeals are upheld the majority are rejected.
October 15, 2018 at 7:59 pm #478641I got this email from Appeal Officer
” I understand that you are unhappy with your RAP result. I have also reviewed the work on your request.
I have looked at the feedback and there was an irregularity in the conduct of the assessment. Therefore, I will ask the administrative team to remove the fail grade for the RAP from the mark sheet. This will take some time to show on your Oxebiz account.
Please let me know if you have any further queries.”
What does this imply?
October 15, 2018 at 9:45 pm #478659What it means is that they have accepted that the assessment criteria were not applied appropriately.
As a consequence the fail has been quashed. As a different section has to manually adjust the result they have explained that it will take a while (maybe even a week or two) before your online account shows the grade has been changed to a pass.
