i am with you brother! You deserve to celebrate every bit of your success.
July 17, 2017 at 7:38 pm #397138i share your pain. Guess what? i took me 6 good years to pass p5. i failed because i honestly did not understand the paper but when i did, i passed it. I focused on solving past questions and there i go to know why i had failed all these while.Don’t give up yet.
Never say die until the bones are rotten.July 17, 2017 at 8:09 pm #397147Finally i am an Affiliate after such a long journey. After six attempts i managed to secure 51% to qualify. In fact P5 became a standing block to my qualification and i share in the pain in those who couldn’t make it. I have expressed similar sentiments before specially in the March exam when i thought i was going to go through. Just don’t give up do more revision and more critically is to manage your time well.
Time yourself and never go over the time allocated to each question. i did just about 80% but covered every aspect of the question.I can now have time for my family they have sacrificed a lot.
I wish all who have to write again the best of luck.
July 17, 2017 at 8:12 pm #397148Thanks you so much Open tution your revision materials are excellent. Since last year September i relied only on the revision materials, videos and the flash cards.

Those of my friends who are not able to pass this time rememer that at times Life may knock you down badly BUT the key is to pick yourself up and fight again and again until you succeed. At one time i was so demotivated that i left ACCA with 11 papers knowing that i won’t be able to complete it, but resumed after a long period of time with new determination and ambition and qualified the remaining 3 in first attempt. Keep fighting.
July 18, 2017 at 2:35 am #397220Passed with 51% on my first attempt. Link theory worked for me

failed with 43% and its the only paper holding me back to affiliate status
July 18, 2017 at 10:11 am #397306My brother it’s terribly frustrating when results come and you couldn’t make it especially in your case if it’s the last paper. It happened to mefor 1 whole year. Never give up reorganise yourself and write in September. Never stop writing until you get it because all the sittings are not the same in terms of the structure of the questions you may be fortunate to have a manageable one.
Manage your time strictly according to the marks allocated to each question. The key is to write something about every part of the questions than elaborating on the once you can handle very well. In addition, do more questions and answers. In fact it’s no easy leaving an easy question to go and start another because you are behind time but, trust me we are mostly failed due to mismanagement of the time. Remember the instruction on the cover page of the exam is ‘ATTEMPT’ the questions. This is a professional exam and i could see we are being assesed in all facet. Good luck
July 18, 2017 at 12:32 pm #397349@Honeyman. Can you advice how you passed after 6 years. I have been writing this paper for a while now. and this is the last paper left. i really need to get it over with.
thanks.
July 18, 2017 at 12:49 pm #397353To God be the Glory, i have managed to pass with 50%. It was by the miracles of God. The issue is that i want to encourage those that are rewritting to persevere and press on and never to give up. I have written this paper more than seven times and never gave up. you too can do it. Dont miss a sitting and come back fighting everytime. when you miss the sitting, no one will explain to you the questions and style of questions which came because NOW we have hybrid past papers and some questions will never be published. In addition practice writting exams under exam conditions and also learn to handle the time pressure using the X 1.8 min per question marks allocated and write the timing when starting every question so that every question is attempted
It is important to get the easy marks such as professional marks and easy theory marks for explaining. Be careful of calculations and time which can be lost there in taking long, Don’t follow order of answering but go for the sequence to answer in line with easy marks.
Finally with no 15 min reading time, I once failed because I did not decide which 2 of the 3 options to go for, I started and then stopped midway and restarted on another question. What iam saying is that take time to choose which 2 of 3 to answer in Section B and don’t backtrack on your decision.
Make good use of Becker, Open tuition, BPP and Kaplan , BUT be cautious of information overload and know how to identify the best source of information. Mine I maximized the ones I have mentioned BUT Best utilized soft copy of BPP Study and Rev KIT because with soft copy I could go in search mode to look at a topic or question.
It was surprising that when we were looking for EVA serious calculations questions, only some simple explanations came through. This paper has actually changed and has many theory work so to say. But EVA calculation question should surely and can come in Sep 2017 exam (disclaimer here ,lol)
Hope this will help to those that are rewriting.
Go on don’t give up , you have come this far already???July 18, 2017 at 4:16 pm #397397Hi
please help me on this I tried 6 attempts keep failing, can I swap P5 to P4, can any one give me an advise who did both exams?July 18, 2017 at 4:17 pm #397398Hi
P5 to P4 is it worth swapping?July 18, 2017 at 4:22 pm #397400I did fail before, just went to 3rd attempt, but this paper got me there and I have only 4 attempts left for my 10 years
July 18, 2017 at 8:07 pm #397441Failed agian at 43%, it was my 6th attempt and sept is my last attempt to Qualify otherwise will lose the other the 4 p level papers
July 19, 2017 at 12:36 am #397451Finally an affiliate thanks OT passed this paper first attempt after failing P6 twice. If you have been trying same paper and failing too many times maybe just swap to a different Option paper like I did….. Anyway good luck to all who will resit in Sep
July 19, 2017 at 7:21 am #397482P5 paper is simpler than P4 in my opinion. My tutor used to say that students fail in p5 because they don’t think and write. In p5 more emphasis is on theory part… Right?
I wrote P5 in last December and scored 41, then in March scored 46, now passed with 51 marks in June session. Let me tell u the question they asked in December session about budgeting was expanded to a major portion of 50 marks question in June 2017 exam. It’s in our syllabus. And the evaluation of performance report was a major component of 50 marks question in December session and they repeated the same “evaluate perf report” in March session.
I could predict that for June session would contain questions from quality because they had asked Kaizen and target costing in March. Usually students have a tendency to skip a question that was asked in the last sitting….instead I focused on quality and other areas which came for the exam. Helped me to clear the exam.
I think for the next p5 u can brush up….. Business structure (especially complex), div perf measure, again evaluation of perfe report and risk (maximax etc)
I Wholeheartedly thank God Almighty for helping me clear the Paper P5. ?
I feel the peace now….. Those who are in despair please pray to God…God knows all our need…. We are his creation and he knows us Better than anyone else.
July 19, 2017 at 7:31 am #397483Hi all,
This is my first time writing here… and I do this case I totally lost… I failed again and it was not my 2 or 3 attempt it was 6th… and i got only 40 marks… which is the lowest of all the papers and attempts of P5…
I wanted to ask for an advise – is it better to switch to another paper or keep doing this one… time is against me as I took a break in ACCA now I should do my final exam which is this one by Dec 2018.
Tnx for any advice
July 19, 2017 at 7:44 am #397484P5 paper is simpler than P4, have cleared both….
July 19, 2017 at 10:22 am #397513Passed on my 2nd attempt with 54% I am over the moon
Found the Opentuition “revision lectures” most useful and would recommend them to anyone struggling with exam technique and approaching the longer questions.
1 exam left now! P4, P6 or P7 hmmm tough decision
July 19, 2017 at 11:52 am #397546Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am testament that you can do this !
I passed P5 59% and P4 56%.
I have been going at these my final two papers since 2014. I’ll let you do the numbers on the number of resits !
The June exam sitting was my last eligible sitting as I have been studying since 2007 ! So you can imagine the incredible stress I was under ! Last chance saloon !
So what did I do different this time round to wing two passes..
ACCA P5
I attended a revision course at Reed Business School. Tutor was Gamel Taher, chief paper marker for this paper. Expensive but first class facilities and tuition. Recommended. I did the BPP Mock in exam conditions. I paid fees personally.
I watched webinars on exam technique. How to construct a report to ensure you get the 4 marks for presentation. I learned if a question is say 7 marks I did seven mini paragraphs of writing each time referencing it back to the case scenario or company named in the question. I think in the exam it is so easy to write big paragraphs with many points. As I took this exam, I accepted I was not going to be able to answer each question fully in a style that the marker would do. Instead, I focussed on quality rather than quantity. I put my hat on as though I was the consultant giving advice. For example, I would write “I would suggest doing blah blah because it will give this benefit or remove this potential problem”.
The recommended text books only give you a flavour of a subject not always the meat on the bone. I watched youtube videos. I watched open tuition videos.
I looked at all the exam papers since the new examining team came in. I analysed each question and summarised what it was asking. I then made sure I covered each area in my studies. For example, the Balanced Scorecard. I learned not only what the model is but how do businesses apply it in the real world. I was so hoping this would come up in the June sitting. It has to be a strong contender for the September exam sitting. I accepted I couldn’t learn all of the syllabus and remember it all. So I focussed wholly on those areas that were repeated in exam questions and hadn’t been examined for a while. I made sure I could do the math in this paper. For example, how to analyse business units of a parent company (ROCE, EVA, Residual Income).
In the exam, I read the requirements first. I then said to myself where are the easier marks. What can I do here? Then, I chose my option questions. I did a quick plan. Then, read the scenario highlighting the sentences that would help my answers.
Actually, I thought I had failed this exam. I was so dejected afterwards as I thought I had blown my chances to qualify with ACCA. I was depressed all that Wednesday.
Be disciplined, you need to study each night. I know how hard it is you feel tired. You have to keep going. Study the areas your strong at to reinforce the knowledge and then on the weekends when you maybe have more time conquer those areas that your finding harder. I used to sit in the library on weekends from 10am to 5pm. I would reward myself with a beer later that evening.
If I can do it any one can. I am not clever. Please don’t throw in the towel.
Good luck with your studies.
