Overall the paper was reasonable in terms of the topics covered, but struggled again with time management. I hope I did enough this time 🙂
December 7, 2017 at 4:03 pm #421619The paper was reasonable.
Does anyone remember the marks for the compulsory question and what the questions were roughly.
For options I did questions 2 and 3.
Question 2 was financial analysis on 3 different acquired businesses of a corporate parent with BCG Matrix and Ashridge Model (18 marks). And also the 3 corporate parent approaches (7 marks).Question 3 was harmons process strategy mix looking at three functions of the business (15 marks) and disavantages of outsourcing a department (10 marks)
Not sure what question 4 was- can’t even remember.
Any ideas what question 4 was??December 7, 2017 at 4:11 pm #421625Didnt manage with q3 . Is it possible to pass with 2 questions ?
December 7, 2017 at 4:16 pm #421627Q1 was s and w using value chain and variences. 24 marks. Recommend solutions to w. Budgeting advantages.
Q4 was on cultural web. How competences framework helps to recruit teachers.December 7, 2017 at 4:16 pm #421628AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

Very unlikely. Thats a whole 25 marks gone. Whats the likelihood of scoring 50% out of 75% available. Slim
Its tough enough over 100%December 7, 2017 at 4:17 pm #421629AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

Cultural web and competency framework
December 7, 2017 at 4:24 pm #421632The variances threw me off balance as soon as I opened the paper. Attempted Question 2 first and then Question 1… didn’t have time to finish the paper. I’m not happy with it. I suppose lack of question practice is what made it look so tough.
Not sure that I’ve scored 50% …. Good luck for results everyone.. 🙂December 7, 2017 at 4:27 pm #421634Does anyone actually remember the break down of question 1.
I know part A was 24 marks for value chain and assessing it.What about part B – addressing strengths and weakness or just one? It was just weaknesses right? Also how many marks was it?
Part C was advantages of budgeting, but how many marks was it?
December 7, 2017 at 4:33 pm #421636Qn 1 part a-24
Part b-12
Part c -10December 7, 2017 at 4:34 pm #421638AnonymousInactive- Topics: 29

Q #2 wasn’t bad at all.
wrote that the farm was a ‘dog’ company and a value trap business, the insurance company a star company and the last tech company a cash cow company and ballast business.
Thought that the parent company was more of a portfolio manager
December 7, 2017 at 4:38 pm #421640Question 2 and 3 was much better…Thou I dint remember Ashridge matrix ,so used only BCG matrix…

sales were up.
being ‘green’ helped marketing and sales.December 7, 2017 at 4:54 pm #421645Unbelievably time pressured – missed the final 10 marks of question 4.
A lot of easy marks in question 1 case study, too much to write but I found the requirements flowed into one another nicely which made the thought process a lot more manageable.
Question 2 was nice – not a big fan of the legal outsource element though. My answer felt very generalised if anything.
Not a fan of Cultural Web in Q4 as too much of it crosses over and missed the final 10 marks. Just hope they find 50 marks in all over the god damn writing!!
December 7, 2017 at 4:55 pm #421646Didn’t do any calculations for q1, did good in q3, and couldn’t finish q4. I think this will be the fist paper that I fail. ?
December 7, 2017 at 4:58 pm #421648Were we required to do a flexed budget and if yes were the answers all adverse ?

no, i think you just had to use some variance analysis to help point on weaknesses.

being ‘green’ helped marketing and sales.Sales were up? In actual sense didnt they sell less and at a lesser price that reduced their revenue in total? However it exceeded their breakeven i.e they made a profit altleast
December 7, 2017 at 5:02 pm #421652I had mixed feelings bout the exam, the question was reasonable its just bout the time constrain i was not really satisfied with my answers. I even didnt really know what i wrote lol my hand writing was like a 1 grade hopefully the examiner will understand it . A bit here and there not really analyzing it with the word because.. as need to move on to other question as time passed by.

December 7, 2017 at 5:18 pm #421659Hey guys,
Q1 was ok but I did not do a variance analysis (not enough time to analyse the info, do calculations and write it up). Despite that – I spent far too long on part a (it was worth a lot of marks though – 24 I belive!)
But for b and c I did not write enough as I was behind schedule.I then did 3A which was good as I knew Harmon’s matrix. 3B was decent also.
But Q2 was not good (for me anyway). I was low on time and panicked a bit.
Part A was worth loads and I didn’t write enough.
For B I squeezed out a sentence of anything I could think of for each of the 3 topics. Hoping to get a mark somewhere in that.Sadly due to the last question I think it might be a second fail for me 🙁
How did you guys find Q2?
Best of luck in your results
December 7, 2017 at 5:19 pm #421660Yes, flex to reflect a budget for 8000 units instead of 10000
They were all adverse, I can’t remember which is for which but I had the following
Adverse (30000) (I think this was Raw Materials)
Adverse (40000)
Adverse (50000) (I think this was Labour)Total Adverse was (120000)
