I went for three first attempts to try and complete the qualification:
    P2 – passed 66%;
    P5 – failed 45%; and
    P7 – passed 73%.

P5 just had to spoil the party!

    How is your exam technique?
I hate to say but I didn’t and haven’t revised lots for most of my ACCA exams.
Exam technique is key. You HAVE TO move on and only spent the time allocated for the questions (1.9 mins per mark ish)
    I swear by it.
Also make sure you lay out your answers nicely, subheadings are a must!
    Use tables where possible.
Use common sense for as much as possible.
Use the good old PEE – point evidence explain. Never say something and not back it up you will get 0 marks.
Then on top obviously knowledge of the IFRS/IAS’s are needed.
Practice Q1 variances as much as possible until you basically get 100% right.
Then you will be on to a winner.

    Good luck x

    Dammy1,

I would advise doing alot of practice questions , especially Q1 so you are adept at putting everything together and finding your own procedure. The more questions you do, the more senarios you can deal with and your speed and technique will improve. P2 is extensive and takes time !
Layout and presentation of your workings is also important, so the corrector doesn’t have to look for marks. Even if you go wrong on some workings , if it is clear that you attempted correctly you will get marks .
I know its obvious, but the theory of the IFRSs is vital so you can discuss in the other questions. You need to back up what you say by direct reference to the IFRS that is applicable to each case.No quick away around that either!

Don’t give up and the very best of luck.

Passed with 71% on my first attempt – I am delighted! Three exams to go and I’ll be qualified. Thanks Chris for the brilliant lectures on how to answer section B of this paper. I thought I had done very badly but I used your technique and clearly it works!

Glad it worked for you and well done on passing!

passed with 51% after many many attempts. What made the difference was the Kaplan revision course and the OT video lectures.
