January 18, 2017 at 12:59 pm #368162Congratulations to all those who have passed the exam and good luck in your future exams and careers.
For those who sadly did not get good news – what can you do to pass next time is the question most usually asked!
If you had a marginal fail like Ionescu with 49 you may think to question the result, but with results like that the ACCA should themselves check to ensure it is correct before releasing the results. However if you are in that situation and the thought that it might be wrong continues to bother you then for the sake of your own sanity and to allow you to move on then you may ask for it to be checked if you have the funds available. Understand however that the outcome is almost certainly going to be the same especially as so much of the exam is now MCQ! I have never known a result to change!
If you then move on from there then you must resit in March as the June exam is based on FA 2016 and in income tax at least there have been some significant changes. What do you do – question practice – and in so doing you will make the required progress! You need to use a FA 2015 exam / revision kit from one of the approved providers after you have revised again the individual taxes. Where you have problems go back to your notes and study those areas again.
When students have to resit they often start their resit studies by going firstly to the areas they had most difficulty with at their previous attempt – wrong!! If it was a problem at the end of the previous studies it will be an even bigger problem at the start of your resit studies and you just get more anxious about your studies and lose motivation when you feel that little has been achieved from a study session.
So what you should do is to start with your stronger subjects – revise and do question practice and you can then move on to the next area and your confidence and belief will grow as from each study session you feel that you have made progress and ticked off another part of the syllabus!
Once your best subjects have been covered move to your marginal areas to make the required improvement therein – again revise and then do question practice with a variety of Section A, B and C questions.
When it comes to your real problem areas go back to the OT lectures where necessary as you probably have fundamental knowledge problems here that need to be dealt with! It is no good trying to attempt exam questions if you do not yet possess the basic knowledge required for a reasonable attempt!
If you scored in the 30’s or less then very clearly you do not have sufficient technical knowledge in a wide area of the syllabus so although your approach will be the same as above there will be more areas where you need to go back to basics and work through the lectures and notes – most of which is example based.
The technical notes written by the examining team should also be a fundamental resource in your revision plan and should be thoroughly worked through – not just read through!
In the exam you should ensure that you can reasonably answer Section C questions first of all, as here you are rewarded for what you get right, rather than in Section A particularly, where you are punished for what you get wrong!!
Get 80% of a Section C question correct and you score 80% of the marks – get 80% of a Section A question right and you may score NO marks!! Don’t waste time on, what are for you, difficult Section A questions when there should be easier and more plentiful marks to be scored in Section C.
So if you do have to resit get yourself together and motivated to put the work in to get the right result in March and work hard, but in the right way, to bring that result about!
There are many qualified ACCA’s that also failed a subject in their studies but learned from it and got stronger to realise their goal! Make sure you become one of those people too!January 20, 2017 at 12:43 pm #368565Sorry if posted elsewhere, but if you go to the past CBE exams for F6 and look at the December one, it looks very similar to the paper one from December. I’ve just been looking through at some of the areas I knew I got wrong.
