Today a few of us sitting exams in Manchester in June, at the Armitage Centre had an urgent email from the ACCA informing us that due to circumstances beyond their control, they had to change the exam venue (drum roll) to yet another difficult to access area of the universe! The Armitage Centre is not that easy to find but it is in the centre of Manchester, a central easily accessible location, so sending us to Trafford Park, I’ll say it again Trafford Park (Bowlers Exhibition Centre) is just ridiculous in my humble opinion! Apologies if anyone lives in Trafford Park 🙂
It was Manchester United FC for awhile then the Armitage Centre now Bowlers!
Do they (the ACCA) stop to think that their exams are hard and therefore stressful and we as students are already feeling the stress on the day never mind they are adding even more stress by changing easily accessible exam centres to one which isn’t easily accessible! And what is the change of venues based on, number of students taking exams per sitting?
So far I have defended the ACCA as some things which students have complained about such as website traffic causing the website to be inaccessible to students appear to me to be out of their control as it could happen to anyone. However, should the ACCA not consider their stakeholders needs as well? Or is it that they have already receive the extortionate exam fees by way of income so they don’t care!
Harsh but true in my opinion!

The same scenario with the Cardiff Venue this year also. I’ve already complained to ACCA regarding this stating the same thoughts as you. They basically came back and said you have a choice of exam venue its up to you to choose the right one. I’ve sat all my exams at Cardiff. They have changed the venue 3 times since doing the exams. The first venue was at a concert hall where they were doing sound checks for the bands in the evening so we didn’t even have exam conditions. The second venue had ample parking and was a good venue but they’ve changed this to a venue that has no parking this year and no streets around to park in either. The nearest parking place is a Tesco’s car park where you’ll be clamped after a three hour stay. They gave me links to taxi’s and buses! Really good during rush hour traffic! and worrying about the exam.
They say they base the venue on availability and the number of people taking the sitting. I guess there was no strategic planning here!
