Pass with 54%…….4th attempt!!!
I was convinced I’d messed the exam up (again).
I just didn’t manage my time well at all during this paper, and I really struggled on every exam day (panicking lots). For those who were not so lucky with their result just remember to keep going. You’ll get there!!
November 3, 2017 at 6:42 am #414179That’s so nice – thank you!
Congratulations on passing P4!!!
October 16, 2017 at 2:41 pm #411891I tried all sorts over the years but this is how I did the last paper and how I’m doing my current one…..
As soon as you’ve done 1 exam give yourself the weekend off, then move straight onto the next exam the following week.
Read the study text within 1 month (I have BPP text books for my P papers) doing approx 1hr a day.
Then spend the next couple of months doing past papers/ questions from revision kit & reading articles).I’ve just started doing practice exams for P4 in December (7 weeks!).
The scenarios in the questions will help apply the knowledge and you’ll be more likely to retain the information (I often find that 1 particular question ‘stick’s in my mind and I use that as a base to answer other scenarios).
Aim to do at least 1 past exam question per day, and then top-up with revision kits/ articles at the weekends (not as time consuming).
If you do it little and often it’s a lot more manageable and less likely to interfere with work/family @ weekends.
People have been saying for years that exam practice is key – and it really is.
Try and do all the past papers at least twice. To start with you wont know how to answer them and it is easy just to look at the answers….but try not to. By the time you do the 2nd circuit of papers you start to become more confident and can start to break-down the information and answer quicker.
Read the articles again a few weeks before an exam and they will be a lot clearer.
Do you feel time pressured during the exams?
Do you have enough time to answer all questions?Only by answering ALL questions do you stand the best chance of passing.
I wish I’d started doing all this from the beginning….it would’ve saved me many sleepless nights/ heartache.Do a study plan and STICK TO IT.
Because you are doing re-sits I don’t really think you need to bother that much with study text. Just use it for reference if you don’t understand an answer.
Just practice, practice practice!! Can’t say it enough – practice.Best of luck.
October 16, 2017 at 10:36 am #411791oh Paul I’m sorry to hear that..
I’ve seen a couple of your threads and had my fingers crossed for you!But by the look of your scores its the exam technique that’s failing you – not the knowledge.
I failed P4 in March then failed P1 & P4 in June. That was 3 fails in a row and tbh it was topping off my already c88p year! Even more frustrating was seeing those around me passing – with high marks (#’!$#/@!) – and progressing up the career ladder. Yes I was jealous, and bitter.
Studying takes you away from family, friends – and anything fun! With family and full time jobs it.is.HARD!!!I was beginning to think I was just not cut out for this – and I’m still not 100%.
But ACCA/CIMA qualifications are so important! Employers really value them and you will definitely learn more from failing then passing.I’m extremely thankful that I passed P1 in September but I know that it’s not over yet and that I need to put more work in for the remaining exams…..as hard as that is to admit.
Never look too far ahead because it can become soul destroying. Head down & one at a time.Good luck with whatever you decide.
April 17, 2017 at 7:24 am #38192339 and fail for me 🙁
My first p paper and it was a massive shock to the system! I really enjoyed f9 so I thought taking p4 6 months later would be the right thing…..Apparently not.
Nevermind. Onto p1 for June and maybe p4 retake…haven’t decided yet.Well done to all those who passed/got affiliate. Awesome!
February 9, 2017 at 7:15 am #371716I agree – it’s your employer which is the problem, not the qualification.
You’re making me worried as I’ve been with my company 9 years…..I plan to stay for another 1 /1.5 years until I get my ACCA qualification and then I plan to get a better job/more responsibility etc (dare to dream!).
Hopefully I’ll find someone who’ll take a chance on me…but you never know :-/
Good luck with the job hunting
January 18, 2017 at 7:10 am #368068I never done 3 before – my max was 2.
I guess it depends how you felt F7/F8 went the first time around….
Did you feel confident with the syllabus but just didn’t manage your time well during the exams??
If you’re confident with the F7/F8 study text I would say yes – but you would need to watch all F6 lectures by end of January/ beginning of Feb and then spend a good solid month doing practice exams for all 3. Practice exams are the key.Whatever you decide, good luck!
December 20, 2016 at 11:00 am #364075….mine is above the average, without any P papers. BUT I do have 9 years in my current job with experience in various areas. It’s all feathers to your your cap and if an employer is looking for that certain ‘feather’ then they may prefer experience over qualifications (not always of course).
I can honestly say when I was recruiting my staff I didn’t necessarily look for qualifications – it was the experience in certain areas I was looking for. When I found the right person, they came with a degree in finance and so got a little more money.
But I was not recruiting accountant/ manager/controller level, which is where they really want the qualifications.I’ve chosen to gain experience over getting qualifications quickly, but that was my own preference (I like to relate the material to something I’ve worked on).
Qualifications are very important for the higher spec jobs (where the money is) but every company will be different. I’m sure you will reap the rewards once qualified 🙂

Hi Wispy1984,Congrats on passing your exam! And good luck with the next one. I still have 9 left! This is a struggle for me!
Thank you 🙂
I remember feeling exactly like you and still do if I’m honest, but the key for me (just me) was to stop comparing myself to others. I kept hearing all these stories about these super students who did the whole ACCA qualification 1/1.5 years!! I got so frustrated it was taking me so long!!! That’s why I loved the stories above – it reminded me that there are others out there, who feel/have felt exactly the same as us, that have made it 🙂
I’ve accepted that I will complete ACCA when I’m ready – and that’s it. If people want to spend every waking moment behind a text book then that’s their objective, not mine. Keep your head down, concentrate on one at a time and before you know it the finish line will be in sight. Never feel bad about the time it takes – you won’t get any prizes for finishing it quickly 😉Just believe in yourself!
October 26, 2016 at 6:57 am #346060Hey Paula28!
I passed my F9 re-take in September.
I’m missing the December sitting as I’ll be on holiday, so I’ve got 2 P papers (P2/P4) planned for March.I’m planning a ‘big push’ next ear to get everything done by Dec 2017……we’ll see lol!
Slow doesn’t matter – forward is forward 🙂
October 19, 2016 at 7:28 am #344902If you like F9, or recently studied it, I would recommend you do P4. I’ve change my option to P4 because I enjoyed F9 so much (don’t laugh!). Look at the sllyabus and go with the subject you feel would give you less hassle. 2 P papers within 2 months is asking alot, so go for the easiest!
Good luck!
October 19, 2016 at 7:24 am #344899I think that would be asking alot…..especially 4 P-papers in 1 go, after only 3 months studying! You’d be better to do the 4 F-papers instead (if you HAD to do 4 that is).
I guess it depends on how much basic understanding you have of the subjects – do you have a good foundation from practical experience, at a reasonable level, etc?Personally I wouldn’t – even studying full time. If you fail any then you’re paying double and still won’t complete by June 2017. I would attempt 2-3 max, but then everybody’s different 🙂
October 18, 2016 at 7:29 am #344524I had to drop to one exam per session because I was failing 1 out of 2 (sometimes 2 out of 2) so now it’ll to take me soooo much longer to finish 🙁
After 7 years of AAT/ACCA I’m getting REALLY fed up!
However, I have a job which I’m gaining experience in and employer who’s willing to fund my ‘slow progress’ so there’s no rush really – it’s just I want it to be over (like so many others out there). One day I’ll look back and laugh at all this…….I hope!!
October 17, 2016 at 1:09 pm #344238No don’t give up!!
Perhaps you are doing too much – are you taking one exam at a time?
Sooo many people feel like this but you must think of how far you’ve come and (despite how you feel right now…..) how close you are to finishing!!
I work full time and do self study – as do thousands out there – and it’s very doable 🙂
Studying is just like going to the gym: most of the time you don’t want to do it, especially if you’re exhausted after a long day, but you must be disciplined and just DO IT!You’ll be there soon, just have faith.
October 17, 2016 at 6:57 am #343858Passed 2nd attempt with 64.
For my first attempt I studied with another website (which I paid for) and I barely knew a thing when I took the exam! I didn’t know how to calculate WACC, no real understanding of financial management, didn’t have a clue how to hedge exchange risk etc etc. Needless to say, lesson learned, I won’t be using them again! Thanks so much to the open tuition team! Excellent service 🙂
July 20, 2016 at 6:53 am #327884I’m loving these stories!!
They’re really inspiring me to keep going. Even through everyday struggles, and road blocks along the way, you all managed to find a way and managed to DO IT!!!Congrats to all that are finally there – and best of luck to those who are still going x

Failed 45% i really felt like i had passed the questions all seemed ok. I just cannot seem to do multiple choice think i doubt myself too much. Not looking forward to even more of it been multiple choice cutting out even more method marks. Think my days and the acca may be done now as i cannot see myself passing now.nooooo don’t say that ?
I failed too so I’m in the same boat. It’s hard to think of the positives at the moment but we must carry on!
I’m sure there’s so many people out there who felt the same and said the same thing – and they’re now qualified.
Chin up and just take them 1 at a time ?

June 14, 2016 at 7:24 am #322854I’m planning P2 first
I believe P2 covers some of P1 (told by lecturer) so I think P1/P2 would be good.Good luck!
June 14, 2016 at 7:20 am #322853oh Erin – I’m totally there with you!
I’m just incredibly fed up with it all. I have 2 children – my son being 1 yr old – and I just feel like my family life is suffering 🙁 it’s really getting me down.
I work full time, starting at 6 and finish at 3 – so I can do the school pick up – home by 3.30 and my husband then goes to work. I have to do dinners, homework, baths, bedtime, all on my own, then, find some energy from somewhere to work out and study!! I would really love to meet those women who claim to ‘have it all’ because, I’m sorry, I don’t think they can!
Weeks gearing up to the exams my husband and children tell me how much they miss me, as I’m walking out the door to go to the library, and the guilt is really upsetting.
Compounded with the fact that I it don’t really see my husband in the week (9pm is my bedtime due to early rise and he finished at 8) – I miss him too!
But me being me I will not show this weakness. I will not complain or moan to my workplace (who are eager for me to complete ACCA asap). I have a desire to be more than I am in the workplace too – FC or director in automotive (ideally F1). I’m currently an assistant account to FC with 3 staff under me.
My husband and I tell each other that its only for a couple more years and then we can enjoy a better life.
As Ali once said:
“Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion”Thought AAT and ACCA I’ve had 2 children, moved 3 times and got married. phew! I’m exhausted!
I’m currently waiting for F9 results (not feeling very confident about that!) then onto P papers.
You can do it Erin! Just head down and take 1 paper at a time. If you only do 1 per year/6 months then fine – there’s no prizes for completing it quickly….. 🙂
