Passed with 57 marks in SBL after multiple attempts.
This is what I did to pass.
1. Watched the top 25 revision video by Sir hassan dosani. Also covered some areas where I felt weak by reading OT notes.2. I picked a few past papers and was kept practising. I didn’t use any revision kit/ textbook. Just keep practising using past papers.
3. Right after practising past papers, I immediately read examiner’s report. This helps a lot to understand on what the marker is looking for and also the mistakes to avoid. So please read it.
4. I watched some, but not all webinars by sir hassan dosani. Followed some of his tips. Also watched some OT lectures for certain areas.
5. Keep practising the past papers under timed condition. May be not all but at least some part of it.
6. ****The most important one******
In exam, allocate time according to the given marks and please move on to next question once time is up, do not stay at the same question, yes you will feel that you got lots of points to write, but you have to be very strict with time management. So please move on to attempt other questions. I made mistakes of not keeping up to time management in my previous attempts as well. This exam is mostly about time management rather than what you know. Yes having some knowledge is important, but you don’t need lots of it. So don’t waste your time by keep reading and covering the chapters. Dont do the same mistakes that i did. Just read the important ones and the rest you will learn it from past papers practice.
Hope this helps for those who failed, I know how it feels like, but don’t worry just limit your resources and stick to the plan. You definitely will pass in your SBL exam. Just keep practising and most importantly believe in yourself that you are going to pass in your next attempt for sure.
Thank you Open tuition for the helpful resources. It helps a lot. 🙂April 17, 2023 at 5:14 am #682860Thank you open tuition. Passed with 53% after multiple attempts. All the while I wasn’t really practising instead was just auditing the answers.( like I was just practising 50:50 not a quality way of practising)
1. I passed in this attempt simply because I practiced the past year questions to timed condition.
– Through practicing you tend to understand the ISAs & IFRSs much better and in that way you get to memorise them more easily and also you will know how to apply them.
– You will improve with your writing styles/tones eg: when you got to challenge mng’s assumptions, you have to question them, doubt them,Just use the PYQS no need to use any revision kits.
– *Remember its not about practising hundreds of questions, instead its about the QUALITY of your practising. So just stick to the PYQS published on the website and practice them to TIMED again and again, trust me each time you’ll answer differently.2. This time right after completing each past year set, i quickly read the relevant examiners report. This is very important as you will learn 5 things:
– what the marker is expecting
– some exam techniques
– Mistakes that you should avoid.
– Note: Most of the mistakes highlighted by the examiners were the same mistakes that I did during my question practice, if I have not read the examiners report I wouldn’t have realized this. So reading these reports can save you from losing marks.– Sometimes the examiner will highlight answers provided by some candidates which are acceptable and you will not find these in the Answer sheets published.
3. I watched ACCA videos on YouTube. This was really helpful in developing the exam techniques.
4. Also I read some ( not all ) Technical articles , like the one on planning questions and risks, and few other articles where I feel I’m quite weak at. The Technical articles will highlight and provide some scenarios on how to answer exam questions.
5. I used open tuition notes and the notes are sufficient and easy to understand.6. This is very important: The key to exam success is not only about studying and practicing but also to believe in yourself and staying positive at all times.
Every single day give a positive affirmation to yourself that YOU WILL PASS in your AAA exam in this next sitting itself. Just focus on the positivity and trust me slowly you will see the changes in you and you will become more motivated to study as well. Try not to worry too much about the difficulty, don’t overthink, just keep practicing and tell yourself that you will be fine. Don’t give up.
Sorry for the long message because I really want to help those of you who have failed because I know how it feels like.
Hope this helps some of you. Stay positive, believe in yourself and always be confident in whatever you do.
All the best:-)April 13, 2020 at 9:46 am #567817@adannaya said:
Hello, I used BPP for study and watched OT videos. To pass you have to read, practice lots of questions from the revision kit and read technical articles. While in the exam prioritize questions. You mustn’t finish them all… I didn’t, but knowing what matters is important. There’s no use wasting time over a 4 mark question when you’ve not attempted 16 marks. Skip it and come back later.
I hope this helps.Hi, thank you so much for sharing your exam techniques and I will try doing what you said. Really appreciated.
All the very best for your SBL!! ??April 13, 2020 at 6:16 am #567702@adannaya said:

May I know what are the resources you used to practice questions? Can I just practice past years , specimen papers and read the technical articles to pass without practicing questions from revision kits?
Please help. Thank you in advance.
