Hi Wondersy,
I called ACCA with the appeal issue this morning…the advisor told me that under no circumstances are the papers remarked. Instead a person independent of the ACCA will check that the admin review was correctly carried out (in other words another recount of the marks on the script). They advised that it would be very unlikely to change due to the 9 checks in place etc.
I’m in 2 minds about appealing too…but going by Yellowhat’s experience, it goes to show that they are capable of making errors.
September 22, 2010 at 5:52 am #68337Hi, Just an update…had my admin review back yesterday through the post, with no change to my 48% F8 mark.
September 18, 2010 at 7:35 pm #68235Hi,
I think you just have to state exactly what you’ve learnt from the module…as simple as that.
I found this ACCA blog which gave me an idea of how to write it:

September 14, 2010 at 7:33 am #66983Congratulations…well done.
Can’t believe the mistakes that are being made…the fact that they failed the exam and also the first admin review.
It’s worrying…you didn’t pass by just 1 or 2 marks, but you got 67%. If you hadn’t been persistent with them you would have been sitting this exam again…in a way wasting your time and money.

That was quick, I didn’t think they were getting back to students until the 20th onwards. Can I ask if you are based in the UK…perhaps the UK students receive their reviews results quicker.
Good luck with your call tomorrow and let us know how you got on.

August 23, 2010 at 9:47 am #64092To leemce,
No they don’t check the whole paper again…they only review the parts you have failed. But even if they don’t change the marks I suppose you get to know what parts you failed and passed.
Take a look at the link below.
August 23, 2010 at 9:15 am #66967No you’re not being harsh…I was kinda thinking too that the result is unlikely to change as I’ve heard many times the papers are reviewed by other markers, just wanted to get other peoples experiences on it.
Thanks
August 23, 2010 at 8:57 am #60437Well done…thats excellent. Can I ask how many hours you put into 4 papers each week?
I’m looking to take 3 in Dec10 as a home study student and am wondering if it will be possible for me to achieve.
August 23, 2010 at 8:24 am #64079To all the 48/49 %’s out there…do you think it’s advisable to get the papers remarked?
I just spoke to ACCA who advised that they only remark the failed sections of the paper, so not the whole paper…but also you get to know which sections of the paper you passed and failed.
August 23, 2010 at 7:45 am #64076August 16, 2010 at 3:10 pm #65489Hi,
I don’t have any experiences studying in Switzerland, but I have recently moved to France (I got married so am out here with my husband) and the ACCA is not taught over here as the French have their own accountancy qualifications.
I ended up having to study via home study. I have to be honest, it’s not easy. When I was in the UK I used to attend the BPP/Kaplan taught courses where a lot of the study tips and tutor support was available. Home study is difficult, but you can still pass the exams if you focus on it.
My problem was not knowing where to start. I had the BPP/Kaplan books but felt that just by reading them I had information overload. I ended up looking through the OT notes which summarized each topic into smaller segments. I’d then refer back to the study texts in order to get a detailed explanation and then practice the questions (past papers and revision texts).
I’ve so far managed to pass both F6 & F9 as home study and am now awaiting results for F8 & P1 (fingers crossed). I know the P papers are more difficult, but am hoping that I can manage them as home study.
Quite a few places in the UK now have online study options where you can watch lectures online and even have tutor support (check BPP website).
As for the ACCA being worth anything, here in France to be honest I don’t think the French really recognize/appreciate it as they have their own qualifications, but I’m still continuing with it as the ACCA is well known around the world and especially the UK. Also i’m beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel so it’d be a shame to give it up now.
Hope this helps.
