First time pass- 56%. End of exams!!! So happy. It has been a very gruelling journey, but I have learnt so much along the way. Many thanks to Mike Little for his acerbic wit and his great encouragement along the way. Good luck to you all.
February 8, 2014 at 8:56 am #156647It is a difficult choice, but you need to go with the option that interests you the most and you feel most drawn to in terms of subject matter. Once you make up your mind, stick with it.
The only way to pass these exams is to do question after question after question, and keep reading around all the points. Read all the ACCA technical articles, again and again. Work at it every day, even if you only do one question.
Draw out a question planner, to make sure you cover as much of the syllabus as possible, and think very carefully about the focus of the question. Ie. don’t waste time answering points that will not score marks. Always make sure you collect the 4 professional marks! Best of luck.
December 27, 2013 at 4:00 pm #153515It really depends on what topics you have most affinity for, as this will be important if you are to absorb and understand the information. I didn’t do F5 either, as the syllabus changed completely, and I also achieved a good mark with F9. However, I did find hedging confusing, and had worked in general industry for many years. Therefore, I decided to go for P5.
The breadth of the syllabus for P5 is huge, and the BPP revision questions are not as comprehensive as required. Another tip – rather than rely on the BPP revision guides for answers, ALWAYS ALWAYS refer back to the original ACCA question and model answer as well as those provided by BPP. The model answers are SO much better. Just keep doing questions, read the technical articles, keep at it and I am sure you will pass.
Good Luck! Linda
December 2, 2013 at 3:28 pm #149177Not really sure what I thought about it… A lot to read and consider, and too little thinking time. Brain scrambled. Here’s hoping for a pass.
August 8, 2013 at 6:12 am #135990Phew – passed, 53%, but last question was a complete disaster, so am very relieved.
Am sooooooooooooooo grateful I passed. Only one exam to go in Dec and that’s it.
June 6, 2013 at 2:44 pm #129801I found it baffling. First question on Balanced Score Card & Fitzgerald and Moon was OK, although I didn’t compare the regions nor do any additional maths. Not sure if that was required, but couldn’t see that it was.
Chose Porters 5 forces, “shoehorning” the model into something that I could write about. Bit of creative writing here. Then selected ABC costing, but was dead in the water. Went round and round the question, but couldn’t make any sense out of the information provided. Sounds like the TP was as bad if not worse! Hope I don’t have to sit this paper again, but think it is likely…:(February 8, 2013 at 8:43 am #115797Passed- 62%. My exam technique was woeful, and I had forgotten to wear a watch. Couldn’t see the clock, spent far too long on Q1. Am extremely relieved!!!
December 10, 2012 at 3:52 pm #111171I took far too much time reading and responding to Q1. Was left with only 1 hour to read and answer both Q2 and Q3. Ran out of paper in answer book, so could not jot further points down for Q3. Q2 part a – question was very confused; it was unclear what the examiner was actually looking for. Whole paper took too long to read and digest. The 15 mins reading time is insufficient, and I didnt even manage to read and understand all of the Q1 question in that time.,
August 8, 2012 at 5:42 am #103241Just scraped through P2 !!! So happy. 50%, but it’s a pass. Bit too close for comfort, but got there anyway. Mind went completely blank in exam for FV adjustments, don’t know why.. Only 3 to go now. Looking forward to P3 with OT in Dec. Many thanks Mike for your instruction, you were wonderful!!!
June 16, 2012 at 9:45 am #101029Thanks you so much. I thought I was going mad!!!
June 15, 2012 at 6:42 pm #100249As an english speaker, may I recommend that the student reads “Eats, Shoots and Leaves” by Lynne Truss. Its a brilliant text on the correct use of the apostrophe:)
