Fair enough, did you get exemptions then as I only got F1 with my economics degree. I understand what you mean with the tiredness, yesterday was the first day I had fully off in a while and it felt a little weird tbh. I think I do f6 in December so that will be five done this year. Yeah I know what you mean with work, I had my manager away on holiday to as well as it being our busy period( June to December) so I do feel tired for some reason.I was exempt from F1-F3 so only have to do F4 onwards. Still feels like a lot of exams though! Don’t think I’ll be able to do three at a time again but at least it got a chunk out of the way this time.
I think we need more sunshine – we had one lovely week in March when I was able to study in the garden and actually wound up with a tan. Maybe that would motivate me? Ok, now I’m blaming the weather…..

Hi Jenny, you got 90?! Dayumnnn girlll! Congratulations 🙂 can you please give me some tips as to your study approach? I’m doing exam in December.
Thank you! Thanks! Just found out I got the global prize which was a bit of a shock so really chuffed.
In terms of study approach I did the same for F9 as for the rest but found that one thing really made a difference to this one even more than the others. This was to make sure I went through the entire text book before attempting any revision type questions. I always do that anyway to make sure I have a good overall understanding of the syllabus but I think it’s even more critical for F9.
The exam questions really do need a complete overview of everything on the syllabus to be able to answer them properly so that would be my main advice.
Otherwise, nothing special really. My study method:
1. Read 3-4 chapters of the text (doing chapter questions). Go on to next one if doing more than one paper (I did three in June so was rotating between them).
2. Write up my notes on those chapters. If anything not clear or can’t immediately remember after the gap of a few days, watch OT lectures on those chapters.
3. Continue on til finished texts for each exam.
4. Start revision – effectively do the same with the revision kit. Practice 3-4 questions for each syllabus area – if have to check notes or not happy with mark do more questions on that area til completely happy with it.
5. Do as many mock exams as can get my hands on, under timed conditions (have hissy fit after first one and assume going to fail). Keep practising exam questions until hand falls off or lose the plot, whichever comes first. That’s it really. The most important thing is the revision kit. I always think I have a good understanding when I’ve finished the text and then get a shock when I start on the kit. It’s definitely the difference between a pass and a fail.
Don’t know if any of that is any help! The Ask the Tutor Forum is invaluable also when you’re studying alone so make use of that if you get stuck on anything – John’s great and very helpful.
Good luck for December!

Thank you. I am thinking of starting F6 for December but concentrating on getting a couple of my Per objectives atm tbh. What are yourself, any plans and are you going to self study?I’m supposed to be doing F8 and P2 next but for some reason am finding any excuse (even cleaning) to avoid the books. Don’t know what’s wrong with me! Could be that I’m a bit over tired as three exams in June took it out of me a bit and I started a new job last month that’s pretty intense. Need a big kick up the pants!!
Definitely going to continue with self study – not sure I could face tuition and I don’t really see the need – but that could change after P2 if it lives up to it’s nickname!
I really enjoyed F6 – it was the first exam I sat. Don’t be put off by the size of the text book – it looks worse than it is. I just loved the fact that it was pretty much all calculation.
Am now going to hoist the P2 text book (I may need a crane) off the shelf and stare at it for a bit muttering ‘open it, open it’…

Thank you for your advice, I did that exam today and got 83% and agree with you that I got a couple of questions where the Kaplan book had not covered it, I guess they do pick the most important elements. Good luck with your future exams.Congratulations! That’s a fantastic result!!
What’s next on your list?
August 1, 2015 at 7:22 pm #264474I did the paper based F4 but it’s essentially the same exam. Don’t know whether this is advice really but my issue with F4 was multiple choice questions about things that were not mentioned in the Kaplan text book at all which I found really frustrating in the exam. Not sure whether we are supposed to read around the subject rather than just relying on text books but, given Law is a vast area as a whole, I’m not really sure how we could go about that.
Other than that, I found it was more a test of memory than anything else so make sure you have the layout of the courts straight – ie which one feeds into which etc, latin phrases crop up so know which is which, Directors duties – all that sort of stuff.
Unfortunately, with 70% being multiple choice, it really can cover the whole syllabus so I ended up just repeating certain things to myself over and over to hammer them in. Also, for Section B I found that explaining some of the areas of contract law and tort etc to a friend helped me know whether I understood and could apply them.
Good luck next week!
August 1, 2015 at 3:33 pm #264411Thanks Samirrules.
Yep, completely agree. It’s always the same. I finish the text and think yes, I know that, I’m feeling good – and then I do an exam question and think ‘whaaat???’. I dread to think what would happen if I went into the exam without having effectively done all those past papers (by using the kits) – I’d fall flat on my face I think!

Congratulations to both of you. Please can you let me know the approach you took to studying? Did you find it helped you to spend more time practicing exam questions or reading and did you study everyday and for how many hours? Sorry to interrupt your celebrations with this but I would love to have these exam results too! 🙂Sorry, not sure which ‘both of you’ you meant so apologies if not me!
I think my approach is probably the same as most. I read 3 or 4 chapters of the text book doing the chapter questions as I go. As I was doing three exams this time, I would then go onto the next one and do the same, then the last.
After that I’d go back to the first to make notes on the chapters I read. I found that the break in between would let me know if I understood/remembered it. If not completely clear or hadn’t remembered straight away I watched the OT lectures on those chapters, noting down anything not covered in the text or, in many cases, a better way of approaching something than Kaplan’s!
Once I had completed all the texts I went into revision phase using the kits. I didn’t look at a single exam question til I had finished the texts as I wanted to make sure I understood each one as a whole. This does help.
Then, it was practice, practice, practice as others have said. I didn’t go back to the texts after I started revision, just used my notes where I got stuck or forgot something. Also made sure I did all the mock exams I could get my hands on – which wasn’t many unfortunately due to the new style of exam but they helped too.
Time wise – I studied pretty much every day. I must admit I really did put the hours in. I know others can get there with a less but I wanted to feel like I’d done absolutely everything I could (had a really tough year last year and wanted something positive this year to make up for it).
Don’t know if any of that helps but that’s my method anyway.
August 1, 2015 at 6:51 am #263999Not sure really. Just practiced every question I could find.
F5 was probably my least favourite so far but, by the time the exams came round it was the one I went into feeling the most confident as the syllabus is not too big (compared to F9) and it’s fairly computational.
I just made sure I covered everything – well, everything numerical anyway. No matter how much I tried I couldn’t put the same effort into budgeting types or balanced scorecard etc. Just find that stuff really boring!
I know everyone says it but it’s true – it’s about question practice. Doing every past paper you can to get used to the style and the fact that different topics can come up in the same question.

Congratulations Jen!Thats amazingThanks Mubanga. Was really surprised when I saw my results as I thought I’d made a complete mess of the ZBB question and not done brilliantly on the Transfer Pricing. The examiner must have been much more generous than I was when marking myself when the official answers were released!
Well done to you too – onwards and upwards!!
August 1, 2015 at 6:00 am #263948Passed with 90. Really pleased after those truly horrible MCQs. Much better than I thought.
August 1, 2015 at 5:55 am #263945Passed with 85. Lowest score of the three which is funny. Before the exams was expecting F4 to be the highest score. Still pleased though.

74!!!!! Soo happy…Well done Ehsan, I knew you’d do it!!
Passed with 93. Really pleased but somewhat startled. Thought I did okay but the examiner must have be more generous than I was when it came to my wordy answers.
Probably too early for a drink to celebrate?
June 18, 2015 at 3:51 pm #257750Thanks for the update – F4 is the only one I’m waiting for now so the suspense is killing me!
Although, having just had another look it seems that all versions apart from Global, English and Irish, had their Section B’s uploaded the day after the exam. Wonder why those three weren’t included??

I think I’ll fail 🙁
I have as I remember 10 correct answers
but section B is poor 🙁Don’t panic yet. You have twenty per cent for A so you only need half the available marks for B – are you sure you lost 30 marks for that section?
June 18, 2015 at 11:46 am #257681Thank you so much for that. You’ve put my mind at rest a bit. Don’t think I did quite as badly as I thought though I still think they were a bit heavily weighted to discursive over calculations and towards certain areas of the syllabus.
What did you think of them?
June 18, 2015 at 11:26 am #257669Wow, just went through them trying to remember what I put and they really were as horrible as I thought – was hoping that I had exaggerated it in my mind but no.
13 of them were discursive! And most of them were nasty. That really was nothing like I expected from Section A.
June 18, 2015 at 10:33 am #257648F9 Section A is up now!
June 18, 2015 at 9:24 am #257595Thank you so much John!
I think I have 19 right based on working them all out again yesterday (but can’t be absolutely sure I didn’t have any funny turns in the exam and put something different).
It’s funny, the one I got wrong wasn’t one I had doubts about (the learning rate question) but now I’ve seen your answer I realise what I missed – fewer new employees to slow down the rate, I put none of the above.
Hopefully my reworked answers tally with what I did put as I’ll be a happy bunny then.
Thanks again!
June 17, 2015 at 3:32 pm #257484Just did what samirrules did and contacted ACCA (I know, I’m impatient).
F4 and F9 will be posted by end of next week.
June 17, 2015 at 2:08 pm #257467Danny, I put all but 5 answers the same as you – at least I think I did. Just gone through the paper and reworked them all out but I can’t be 100% sure that what I get now is what I put in the exam unfortunately as most of them didn’t jump out at me after a couple of weeks gap.
Only ones I have different to you (using your numbers above):
9. LC costing – I had iii) only as being correct as I don’t see LC costing as focussing short-term since it has to take whole life into consideration.
11. Current/Quick ratio – This one I can’t for the life of me remember what I put and I’m not quite sure now so I’m going to assume that I’m wrong!!
16. Shadow price – I had i) and iv) as correct
18. Learning curve – had none of the above – rate faster than expected and all the options were reasons for a slower rate.
20. ROI – I’ve just worked out A 27.59% but not sure that’s what I put or whether it’s correct.
Hoping John will put up suggested answers but may still be a little in the dark due to not being sure what I actually put in the exam.
June 17, 2015 at 1:36 pm #257460F8 is up too now.
Still no F4…..
June 17, 2015 at 1:28 pm #257457Think they are being done right now. F5 and F7 are up and F9 Section B has vanished so fingers crossed.
June 17, 2015 at 1:26 pm #257456Nothing for F9 yet although Section B has now vanished so maybe in the process of being done.
Nothing for F4 either so not sure they are going to include this which is the one I really want!!!
June 17, 2015 at 11:11 am #257441Thanks for posting that Samirrules – maybe all hope is not lost!
June 16, 2015 at 3:07 pm #257282Well said OT!
I spent all day checking yesterday but was on the F4 paper exam thread where myself and a few others were updating progress (or lack of). So there was some helping out going on albeit only on one thread. In hindsight I should probably have posted on this one.
Have checked a couple of times today but still nothing so I’m assuming we’re not going to see the Section A’s after all unfortunately which is a real shame. Am now going to stop checking before I drive myself demented!!
