April 5, 2017 at 4:03 am #380137Dear Afftsang, thanks a lot for the reply. I will do as you said, focus on past papers. I also have already bought the Master Tax Guide for 2017, it looks like quite detailed.
March 22, 2017 at 5:31 am #378895Dear Prospect OBU students,
let me follow up on my previous post I made in September. That time I thought that my OBU RAP results are irrelevant to be thankful to my mentor, Irwin, for all his diligent and professional mentoring he gave to me. We was there every time I had a question, and his personality turned this “must pass” project into an exciting learning experience. I have learnt so much from him and with him.
Today morning, the results for the 33rd Submission period was released, and I have passed (at the first attempt) with an A.
If you have no mentor yet, or you have no idea where to find a professional mentor, I would like to recommend you Irwin at the Learning Luminarium. As I know he has limited seats for students, but if you are luck maybe he can accept you as a mentee.
Good luck to every student, and thanks again Irwin for everything!

November 4, 2016 at 12:57 am #347308I have the reference list and the appendices in both places, in separate files and in the RAP file. Is this going to be an issue? Shall I contact OBU ask for re-submission (re attachment) since I think it is possible before the 16th?
Wouldn’t it be nice if OBU mention clearly what they expect from the students?
November 3, 2016 at 1:15 am #347153I have successfully submitted my RAP, but the submission process bothers me still.
There is nothing specific in the infopack about how many files in what structures must be submitted, there are only hints.
Besides 1 ppt with the presentation , 1 excel with the calculations, 1 pdf with annual report extracts, 1 doc with the references I had an other doc with the RAP but after the conclusion part I also have a references and an appendices chapters as every academic paper must have. Is that a problem? I was very surprised that the submission asked for a separated word file for references. Why is it so? Does it mean that I should have deleted the references from the RAP?
Thanks
October 10, 2016 at 4:53 am #342840Hi bik123,
I understand your situation, I was also struggling back in that time to find a credible competent mentor how is not just concerned about the mentoring fee.
Fortunately, I came across with Irwin at the Learning Luminarium. I highly can recommend him/them. Google the name and contact them. The other one: P exams and OBU are unrelated, go for P1!

Trephena,Following your advice, I read through the forums and decided to do topic 20. I have been searching for an appropriate mentor- because this isn’t a very popular topic and so the mentor must be quite experienced in order to guide me. Do you think that The Learning Luminarium has a skilled mentor who can specifically help me with this topic?
@eyre, try Irwin at The Learning Luminarium. he was my mentor, he is awesome, and he has experience in mentoring T18 and T20!September 22, 2016 at 9:44 am #341356I am just preparing for the 33rd Submission period, but I have already finished the RAP, thanks to my mentor, Irwin, from “The Learning Luminarium” (similarly as the fellow student above)
Regardless to my result, I am so happy and lucky to have Irwin as my mentor. I have learnt so much from him during the RAP! His professionalism, experience, his commitment to guide me and to improve every single detail in my research made a huge difference.
I highly can recommend him and “The Learning Luminarium”!
September 22, 2016 at 2:58 am #341295@Yulim have you submitted an excel sheet with financial statement extract and excel formulae?
according to my knowledge for T18 appendices is really not required, but a submitted excel sheet is a must, as it is stated in the info pack
September 21, 2016 at 9:14 am #341174Those who passed (congratulation of course) could you please maybe share your grade (A or B) and your topic? just for in house statistical purpose.
CheersMay 5, 2016 at 4:13 am #313739Is there any student who passes with A or B with T8 Aviation and willing to contact me please?
April 19, 2016 at 3:10 am #311550For those who failed my advice is:
Read all the examiner’s reports, and mark their words! F8 paper is 50% knowledge and 50% interpretation! Many fellow student already pointed out this many times, but this is very very important to understand!!!
Answer type 1: “check the lists of companies” or “check calculations”
it is 0 mark for sure regardless the question.Answer type 2: Usually a proper answer has 2-3 parts:
what you do + why you do that + how you do that,
stating specific “audit actions” (I don’t use “procedures” here to avoid misunderstandings). The previous 2 answers should be something like this:
“Scrutinise lists of companies going into receivership up to the date of signing to ensure none of them are customers of the company”, and
“Obtain an analysis of the redundancy calculations and cast it to ensure completeness”
an answer like this might get you 0.5-1 mark!If you understand the difference between the 2 answer types you cannot fail ! ! !
April 18, 2016 at 3:48 am #310829pass with 73% on 2nd attempt! so so happy!
February 15, 2016 at 2:26 am #300460one more point, high passing rate doesn’t mean that ACCA loosing its value if passing still requires sufficient knowledge, and it still does. (for sure you cannot pass by only relying on common sense)
F4 is not a good example anyways, because the examiner’s approach also has changed (fortunately) not just the exam format. Now for example it is not required to memorize case names and other (for accountants) useless things. The questions are about practical knowledge, which obviously results in higher passing rate. I don’t see the problem with this at all.
January 22, 2016 at 1:30 am #297089@seagoat You are absolutely right, nothing will happen on ACCA side. Period.
But something is weird for sure: first time ever I walked out an exam and I was confident that it is a pass (managed time well, I had even 10 min to review, I used decent structure and formatting, I answered the questions, used specific precise answers, no guessing no bla-bla, checked the posted hybrid paper answers with mine, and no mistakes! etc.). First time ever I failed. With 48.
This is exactly what happened to many other candidate I personally know.
If it only happens to one candidate, that is lack of knowledge. If it happens to many of us, that there is a serious problem somewhere.
Did you guys use BPP revision kit and textbook?
Maybe the problem is there, maybe we study and practice in a wrong way.
Are Kaplan material users also in the same situation?January 20, 2016 at 1:50 am #296465@izhar, what exactly do you mean by “just exams technique”? Can you elaborate on this a bit and give us suggestions?
January 19, 2016 at 5:19 am #296078absolutely dosent worth for the admin review. just imagine, if they admit just once that they made a mistake and instead of a fail you are a pass, trust would be gone for ever.
@ivalina20, unfortunately it is possible, pass means >=50%, so worst case if you get
MCQ 10p – pass
Q1 0p – Fail
Q2 5p – Pass
Q3 0p – Fail
Q4 5p – Pass
Q5 0p – Fail
Q6 10p – Pass
which is 30p@all, the bast way to prepare for resitting would be to discuss the December questions to know our weaknesses. would you guys be interested to form a whatsapp (or any other) study group, collect all the questions and discuss?
January 18, 2016 at 1:15 am #295276I haven’t received any email yet, but it is already 1:15am, does it mean that it is a fail?
January 15, 2016 at 8:52 am #294611Dear trephena, so if I understand you correctly there is a list about the registered OBU Mentors? Where and how can this list be accessed? I have been looking for a Mentor in my city for months and I cannot find any.
January 13, 2016 at 12:51 pm #294337I also would like to know this, and also how the work experience is proved? ACCA will contact the related employer(s), or we need just to get the employer(s) to fill in a for and submit to ACCA?
