Sana – Based on what you said, I don’t think its your knowledge that’s causing you a problem.

For any question you get, summarise the main points of relevance, then take that and apply to the scenario and answer the question they ask. Eg. if they talk about IAS 38 – just simply state the quick rules about this (that’s showing your knowledge). Then apply that to the scenario and answer the question they have asked. Only stating the rules gains you almost no or little marks.

This technique I was told usually helps you get half the marks or more for each question.

Not sure you can remember – but in the exam there was a question about some ships and that the management was being ignorant of their valuations despite going through a recession. So talking about the rules of impairment was necessary, and then applying to scenario and stating whether the management did the right thing or not by not impairing their assets. What should they have done etc?

    Hope it helps.

Those who are asking how to study for this exam – from my experience. I had studied all the content well – and I spent time relying on studying/analysing past papers – and answering questions from them. However – what shocked me, was that the questions in this exam were no way in any way similar to any of the past papers. That’s what really caught me off guard and probably many other students felt the same. Its at this point you have to rely on your own knowledge and common sense. So learning all the content is the best way to get through this paper. Don’t just rely on past papers.

Did anyone feel the screen sizes of the computers were way too small given the amount of windows (and various texts, questions etc) that were inherent in the exam?

I felt that they kind of gave us the short end of the stick, as I have never in any exams seen questions having scroll bars at the bottom, suggesting you use the scroller to read the question fully.

    Love the paper format exams.
