Hi All,
I’m struggling. I passed the AA exam in March session and without even checking I’ve booked the AAA exam for september. I just realised that every book/notes I read say “Do SBR first before you do AAA”.
Unfortunately, I have already paid for the exam and bought study materials and course from BPP.
Could someone please explain to me if it’s possible to pass this exam without studying SBR before? Is there any notes I could quickly read to get broad knowledge from the subject?
Also, I find the BPP workbook quite hard to follow. Would you consider reading OT notes + watching OT lectures + practicing questions from P&R Kit from BPP sufficient for the exam?
Thanks in advance,
KamilJune 26, 2020 at 7:57 am #574715I am sure it has been done – see here by guidance to someone sitting them both together https://opentuition.com/topic/can-i-sit-for-aaa-and-sbr-together
If you download our notes https://opentuition.com/acca/aaa you will see in Chapter 14 that we refer you to our SBR note https://opentuition.com/acca/sbr if you need to fill gaps in your knowledge.
The most important thing is that you are not ignoring the auditing aspects of SBR topics in your preparation.

July 9, 2020 at 9:02 pm #576461I passed AAA first time before SBR, I took AAA in March 20 and am taking SBR in September 20.
I think there are some advantages if AA is still fresh however, you do need to make sure you know all the examinable standards.
I printed the list of these and then watched the relevant lectures on open tuition – they are actually really good.
I used another provider for the AAA content but it did presume prior SBR knowledge and whilst it did summarise the standards I don’t think it was sufficient (for me anyway)July 9, 2020 at 9:04 pm #576462In answer to your question, the OT lectures on standards (within SBR) would be enough + practise questions

November 28, 2020 at 7:57 am #596801If you don’t mind can you share your list of the examinable standards that you made as I’m also attempting AAA before SBR and a little help from you will be very helpful to me.
Thank You.
November 28, 2020 at 8:55 am #596808Fatima – if you look at the contents page of our AAA notes you will see Chapter 14 “Relevant Accounting Standards” – it has an accompanying lecture.
All our resources you will find here: https://opentuition.com/acca/aaa

I had purchased SBR textbook and exam kit from BPP and OMG when looking at those 900 pages I really doubted it can be attempted without major burnout (I also work full time).
I thought that AAA past papers practice will help me familiarize with the standards in a less painful way, without having to learn too many technicalities by heart.
It took me 2 sittings to clear AAA
My approach was this:
1. Print Opentuition lecture notes and read them enough times, until the content is very familiar
2. Study past exam papers answers
3. Watched OT SBR lectures on standards without following through on examples, just trying to familiarise myself with all the standards
4. Watch YT standards revision lectures to try and cover everything5. I also watched YT prepare to pass but I would say keep an open mind, I felt that exam questions departed from past examples and now it is more useful to attempt the exam with a fresh mind and look for opportunities to score any marks, rather than trying to apply rigid rules on how to answer a question.
On exam day:
Started with Q3 – Q2 that were mostly about Audit issues where OT lecture notes really helped
Q1 left for last 1.30 hour and did the best I could
Jumped at each small requirement that gave a few marks and wrote some pointsAre the tutors right when advising to clear SBR first? Certainly yes, but my goal was to try and clear ANY paper that seems more approachable and finish this qualification already!. Having said that, I will have to try to take SBR in December or latest March, otherwise I will forget the standards… :))
