I am trying to consolidate our client’s report. When calculating goodwill, my results is positive goodwill for the investment in subsidiary but negative goodwill for the investment in sub-subsidiary (indirect).
I wonder if this is possible and what should I treat these figure?
– Should I net off and only present the remaining positive goodwill? or
– Should I present them separately with positive goodwill being goodwill and negative goodwill is expensed off?I am very appreciated your work here.
January 8, 2019 at 12:03 pm #500369Moreover, if i consolidate the parent’s financial statements with the consolidated financial statements of the subsidiary (including the sub-subsidiary), I found the goodwill is different from if I consolidate each separate financial statement of the subsidiary and of the sub-subsidiary.
Could you please advice what am I missing?
Really appreciate for your help.

I’m here to answer exam based questions and not questions that relate to giving advice in the real world, so on this occasion I cannot help.
Thanks
