When calculating the dividend paid to NCI in cash flows is the tci attributable to NCI always used instead of the profit att to NCI? Some examples use tci and some use profit figures? If always NCI why? Many thanks I’m sure I probably missed something obvious.
Hi,
I understand your confusion. Essentially we would use the TCI figure as that represents everything the NCI owns of this years profits and OCI that will have been added on to the opening NCI figure.
If however there is no OCI then we can just use the PFY figure which is then representative of what the NCI owns from this year, given there is no OCI.
Usually if you’re given TCI in the question then use it. If you’re only given PFY then use that instead.
Hope that helps.
Thanks
