Hallo kindly assist in 2009 Dec Paper Q3 ii, the carrying amount is 240-60 depreciation-14.1 decrease, please assist with the working for the decrease of 14.1 as well as 5.5 decommissioning costs
Hi,
At the start of the year the decommissioning amount we’re told is $32.6 m but we’re then told that it has changed to $18.5 m. The difference is the reduction in the decommissioning costs of $14.1 m.
The $5.5 m is the depreciation charge for the year. The adjusted carrying value following on from the change in the decommissioning costs is now $165.9 m which is depreciated over the remaining 30 year life of the asset.
