Can anyone give me some suggestion ????
I have no problem with the calculation questions. But, for the writing questions (like give comments, etc), I am very weak with it.
When I practice questions, especially case study questions, I always stuck with the writing question. Always, when I see the question to give comments or to explain the theory and concepts, I always don’t know how to write. I don’t know from where I should start. It happens many times. And when I see the answer key, my written answer always different with those in the answer key.
So, please give me the suggestion on how to do the writing questions…..

For descriptive questions writing almost anything sensible for the question set will give you marks. Perhaps not 100% but definitely above the 50%. Thats why it is important to attempt each and every question because you are very likely to capture easy marks.
Secondly some advices
Do not treat the answer at end of book as one and only correct answer. It is a full comprehensive answer which you wouldn’t be able to provide during the exam.
Please study explanation of verbs used by examiner – you will see how much depth and breadth is required.
In very general terms 1 mark = 1 idea – so usually you should hover about 2 sentences per 1 mark. Sometimes 1 sentence will be enough for lower intellectual levels but sometimes you will need even 3 sentences.
Perhaps practice as much as you can smaller questions that are for 5-8 marks you will not feel so overwhelmed – practice them as much as u can then you can move to bigger essays ie. 12-15 marks – remember to keep paragraphs style to help the marker.
Now the bad news…
F5 is just a beginning of descriptive papers really – you will have to face such papers as F8, P1, P2, P3, P7 which are very descriptive – even P5 now is.With new exam format there is less writing due to MCQ part – but in profesional level be aware than you will have to produce yourself for full 3 hours.
If you need further guidance please post I will try to help.
February 6, 2015 at 11:52 pm #225559Ok, thanks for your advices. It really motivates me so much.
FYI, I am not a native English. My English is very very bad. When I do the writing in English, I always make so many mistakes in the grammar. And also, I always use the low standard of vocabularies.
Now the question is, do the examiners reduce my score if I make so many mistakes in my grammar ??? And also do the examiners reduce my score if I use the low standard of vocabularies ???
Thanks for your help.
February 6, 2015 at 11:59 pm #225560Markers are aware that most of the students are not native english speakers and really do their best to award marks to students. However they need to be able to understand what you are trying to say.
Using ‘simple english’ is not a problem but some professional vocabulary you need to learn.
With the english of yours as I see above I see no problem for you don’t worry to much
(how long did it take you to write this post?).In the exam you have to be quite fast and stick to time.
February 7, 2015 at 2:11 am #225617Oooh….. I see I see.
To write a post like that, I need around 15 minutes. (So long….)So, the conclusion is The examiners will not reduce our score for poor grammar in the exam ?? Is like that ???
Really ??? I can use simple English ?? That can lighten my burden so much. But, I still have to keep improving my English skill.
February 7, 2015 at 9:58 pm #225903Yes it is quite long for a post – for you writing answers under time pressure will be very very very important
1 mark = 1.8 minutes. You should be able to write around 2 it’s quite a lot of time if you think about however time is relative and on exam you have to be rushing.
Focus on using simple english and being fast – after you practice your speed you can try to be more ‘fancy’ with your english.
Don’t try to be perfect with you answers – it is better to give average answer but attempt every part of exam then give ‘perfect’ answers and run out of time
