Records has it that 50% of students fail the RAP in their first attempt. Why is this so?
This is because students fail to pay attention to some monor details that cost them success.
Here we shall be sharing some of these mistakes and also how to pass the RAPThere are 5 major reasons why students fail the RAP. The number one major reason why student fail the RAP is PLAGIARISM.
Plagiarism is the practice of taking someone else’s work or ideas and passing them off as one’s own. This is a serious Academic offence that has led to the failure of many students. The markers and moderators of the RAP have a plagiarism software that filters through your project and identifies someone else’s work or ideas and if you do not properly acknowledge and reference them, then they will fail your project.
Rule number 1 to passing your RAP, Never, ever plagiarize!@mcgozie – no it is not minor details as your first post implies usually. It is very weak Evaluation &Analysis and poor Referencing and OBU has been pointing this out for years and I have also been stressing the importance of these factors both on these forums, FAQs and in my articles on our home page. Seems some people will never take the advice offered….
Plagiarism is as you say, a serious offence and submitting work that is not yours is actually fraud and a criminal offence in the UK
@Trephena, thanks for your input. I agree with you that Plagiarism is not minor but i used minor in the sense that students could easily avoid this kind of costly error. If only they make use of some plagiarism softwares to scan through their works before submission then they would not be caught up.
The second major reasons for failing the RAP is
Insufficient word count:
The approved word count for the Research Report is 7500 words and that of
the Skills and Learning Statements is 2000 words. They are meant to guide
students and it is strongly recommended that they are adhered to. If your
project is only 4000 words then you are surely going to FAIL the RAP. On
the other hand, if your project is 8500 words which is above the required
7500 words, then you shall FAIL the RAP. The same applies to your SLS.@mcgozie – it is not the low count itself that is the problem it is because of insufficient E&A and inadequate detail (as I have pointed out on our Forum ‘Word count’) that causes the problem, and yes if there is a low word count then it is likely that the E&A has not been covered in sufficient depth
With the SLS the most common cause of failure is insufficient self-reflection. This is often irrespective of the 2,000 word count – students say what they did but do not discuss why they pursued a specific course of action or how this affected them. They waffle on and generalise and do not give detailed examples e.g. ‘I learned a lot from my mentor’ – yeah like what exactly?
WARNING FROM TREPHENA:
the guy @mcgozie who started this topic is attempting to sell you his ebook and to get you to buy a copy of his previously submitted RAP. His advice is pretty useless (as you can see from his posts – plagiarism is not the most common cause of failure and the stuff about word count you can read for yourself in the Info Pack, he also did a few more posts that I have deleted as they are not worth the Forum space as again were either waffle or a repeat of the Info Pack) As he just about scraped through at the 3rd attempt, don’t waste your money as ‘ advice’ from people like this is more likely to harm than help! And using someone else’s work can land you in trouble with both OBU and ACCA anyway.

From P31 onwards OBU has stipulated that students must use a registered mentor only (this means they have done the OBU online mentoring course)
