August 13, 2014 at 5:34 am #189762Hi
You have titled this post ‘Why my F9 gets fail’. It is impossible obviously for me to know because I am not able to see your exam answers.
However, here are a few suggestions that might be relevant:
– Are you confident that you really understood the topics (and were not simply trying to learn rules)?
If you have not already watched all the free lecture on here, then do so and if you are the slightest bit unsure about anything then ask me in this forum.– Did you have a Revision/Exam Kit from one of the approved publishers, and did you practice every question?
If you did not then you must get one. If you did, then get one from a different publisher so that you have different questions to practice. Make sure you attempt them properly before you look at the answers, and then learn from your mistakes afterwards.– Did you spend enough time on the written parts of the exam questions?
Approximately 50% of the marks in the exam are for the written parts. Far too many people spend all their time on the calculations and write very little – it is then impossible to pass. If it is taking too long, then it is better to leave the calculations unfinished rather than leave out the written parts.– Did you present your calculation workings neatly so that it was clear what you were trying to do?
The marks are not simply for the final answer – it will be remarkable if many people get the correct final answer, there are so many little mistakes than can occur. Little mistakes hardly matter – the marks are more for the workings. If you are approaching it the right way then you will get most of the marks. But only if the marker can follow what you are doing.– Did you present your written answers in a way that is easy for the marker?
Obviously make sure your writing is easy to read, but also make sure that each point stands out (leave a blank line between each point). Too many people make two or three separate points in one long sentence – it is then so easy for the marker to miss some of the points.Start studying and practicing again now! And do ask questions on this forum when you have problems.
August 14, 2014 at 10:54 am #190050Hi Mr Moffat,i also fail F9,I watched your lectures and was very much confident i would score at least 65% but managed only 45 % and was wondering how i failed.
However after reading these suggestions i know where my errors were.I never had an updated kit and i ignored the some of the written bits in the exams.
Thank you very much for these golden suggestions.Hoping to pass F9 this time 🙂
