Hi, I am sitting PM in December and I saw the pass rates come out for the September sitting were 41%. It is far and away one of the worst pass rates in Applied Skills level so I guess I am just really intrigued to understand why it’s so badly done and why so many people do fail? I have read over some examiners reports and there’s nothing that sticks out like a sore thumb compared to other exams.
ThanksOctober 21, 2022 at 1:11 pm #669559Because the analysis skills needed to pass the paper is hard to develop and takes time and effort.

Ent234: The biggest reason for PM generally having a low pass rate is that for very many people it is their first ACCA exam because of having exemptions from the previous papers. As a result they do not appreciate the level of difficulty of the ACCA exams and do not put enough time into studying and do not practice anything like enough questions.
It is essential to work through all of our free lectures properly (or if not watching the lectures then to work through a Study Text from one of the ACCA Approved Publishers). In addition it is essential to purchase a Revision Kit from one of the ACCA Approved Publishers. It is full of past exam and other exam standard questions for practice once you have completed your studying, and practice is vital to passing the exam. Too many students just look at one or two past exams on the ACCA website and this is nothing like enough question practice.
The level of difficulty is the same for all of the applied skills exams, but when people fail PM they then appreciate the importance of what I have written above which is what makes other pass rates higher 🙂
October 24, 2022 at 8:26 pm #669887Thanks John, that’s really useful to know and actually really reassuring. I use kaplan for study texts/exam kits but use opentuition as a side resource too as I’ve always found it really helpful and explained very clearly. It’s not my first ACCA exam and I managed to pass all the others first time so I am hoping I am successful in December too.
Again, that’s such useful information. Thank you!
