Now i have a clue how to plan my RAP and start it.March 28, 2014 at 8:28 pm #163537What grade did you get for your own RAP Anna, if you don’t mind my asking?
March 28, 2014 at 9:22 pm #163543Come on @trephena 😀 …….. She said A grade 😀 See above posts
March 28, 2014 at 9:41 pm #163546Sorry missed it – just wondered why passing a RAP makes one a good mentor? Obviously an A grade shows that someone has good skills with regard to report writing but there are 20 topics and each requires a different approach to a certain extent.
So I stand by my comment that ex-teachers and ex-lecturers who have more experience at assessing work and been in the business longer, potentially are the best mentors as they have an almost innate skill at homing in on weaknesses which can be the difference between passing and failing at the end of the day.
March 28, 2014 at 9:45 pm #163548I would highly recommend Topic 8….. it is easy……mentors are many…….it is very related to ACCA studies……it is very interesting as well:))
March 28, 2014 at 10:06 pm #163550Glad you enjoyed doing your RAP SalahUddin – that is half the battle and well done for getting a B, that is still pretty good.
Judging by the failure rates though and comments on this forum, many students do not grasp the requirements, which is very sad and frustrating for them…. and is why, as I have a post-grad degree myself and used to mark for a professional body, I am trying to help out. Not everyone can afford a mentor (and as we know not all mentors are worth the money, though some of course are), I am happy to try to assist. Good that you made the post on referencing as that will help those struggling to get their list together.
The best RAP I ever saw incidentally was actually on Topic 14 – An appraisal of the business and financial objectives of a strategic investment decision made by an organisation and its impact on key stakeholders. Not sure how many choose that topic!
March 28, 2014 at 10:31 pm #163551I wish i knew why i got a B 🙁
Are you a mentor?
March 29, 2014 at 12:33 am #163557I am a sort of mentor but not just for the RAP .- I have coached students failing first year uni exams and mentored a student doing a 15,000 word post grad dissertation when the draft was failed.
Regarding your B grade: the grade criteria are in the info pacK I think. In my opinion the standard of the evaluation and analysis is probably key to the grade overall. Most of the RAP is fairly routine (business models, referencing, spreadsheets) so an A grade probably shows excellent analysis, a B good analysis and a C adequate analysis. Maybe appropriate structure might influence it a bit too as I remember as an exam marker I felt more disposed to well set out work that was easy to understand and frustrated by answers that didn’t show workings clearly or were badly set out. Does it bug you that you might have just missed out on an A? The RAP doesn’t impact much on the class of the degree – exam grades are more critical for that so don’t let it eat away at you – it’s not worth it!
March 29, 2014 at 12:36 am #163558Yup 😀
March 30, 2014 at 7:21 am #163689@NEENA I do not agree with every one what they talk about mentor role.
Mentors should give you clear cut directions about what is wrong and what is right. Most of the mentors them self dont know what is required by OB in rap. Only the one listed on OB mentor site are the qualified mentors. Second, the greed, they sign up so many students that they dont have enough time to guide their students. This is the reason that students fail. for advise contact

I think the best to those planning the OBU project is to read and follow every instructions provided in the information pack sentence by sentence. I have noticed most of the people have failed due to references. The pack is very clear on how to references everything. My mentor had no idea on the exact requirement in the pack apart from that part for the mentor. All he did was to ensure my project was 1. systematic in terms of the flow 2.That I was within my project timetable 3. It was making sense to him(please mind this part cause it might not be what the information pack provide. Therefore compare with the pack) and 4 that my English was reasonable. These and my more than 95% own effort ensured I passed the project.
April 3, 2014 at 12:03 pm #164119Right on brother! I keep banging on about how important it is to read the info pack and guidelines!
April 3, 2014 at 1:43 pm #164136Does one submit the report in pdf format of just ms word??There might be distortions on the location of tables and or figures if using word so just not sure.Any ideas comrades??Thanks

acnca. In the information pack it explains on the type and size of font and also the paper size which should be A4. Check these out in the info pack and use them. When they open your RR and SLS for marking they use these parameters and therefore no distortions. I hope this helps. I am saying this because I tried on different computers to open my RR and there was no distortion as long as I set that computer in those parameters(same font size, type and paper size in A4)
April 3, 2014 at 5:27 pm #164196RAP, SLS & spreadsheets must NOT be in pdf format otherwise OBU can reject them.
April 8, 2014 at 6:30 pm #164799@NEENA I am also disappointed with this so called Mentorship…. I’m having a rough experience with my mentor. He says he won’t spoon feed me and I don’t want him to do that at all but he himself is so confused, he has wrote learn the info pack and he quotes me the rules…. not exactly advising me how I should deal with the problem.
I just figured out that all his students have worked on the same organisation in the past years and he advised me to use the same one which I unfortunately did and now I am scared that what if OBU board raise an objection on this????
My message to all the mentors: “If you can’t guide then don’t misguide at least”
