I purchased BPP materials (study text, exam kit and passcards) and several months later my friend gave me Kaplan text book as he successfully passed the paper and did not need the book anymore.
Therefore I have the opportunity to compare.
The material in BPP-book seems to me more structured and corresponds to the points of the syllabus which is a big plus of this book. But there is too much information in it, I think. You can`t always know which is the most important piece and should be learnt in details and which is worth just reading through. So you are likely to try to learn everything and then the information overloading comes which is no good. In this aspect Kaplan seems to me more compact.
Another point which I should mention is that Kaplan-book has lots of “test your understanding” exersices through the text whereas BPP gives just few – as a rule, very short – exercises through the text and at the end of each chapter there is a reference to one big exercise devoted to the chapter. The approach of Kaplan seems to me more appropriate from the learning point of view.

Kaplan is concise whereas BPP beats around the bush quite a lot. As mentioned in the post above, with BPP you cannot easily separate the vital from the trivial.

I want to add there is a lot of misprints in P5 study text of BPP. I’m really disappointed to notice several misprints almost on every page (((

i used BPP last sitting and i go 47. Even though my issue was time management in the paper, I still think Kaplan one is easier to read and understand. Though BPP has more context. Hopefuly can pass this time.

I think both BPP nad Kaplan are ok depending on what you are looking for. For a first learner BPP is important because it gives details for context, if you just want to pass or just to get a quick overall picture of the topics then Kaplan is ok- I think blending is better. I especially recommend the BPP Rev Kit because it does NOT use the examiner’s answers which assists the student to think differently and compare with the actual examiner’s.

I prefer BPP, have studied from Kaplan, but bought BPP as well. I think it depends what stage of studying you are on – I am resitting and wanted to do more. Kaplan did not explain things in such an easy way as BPP. I found BPP easier and better structered but it is the true what others say it is hard to pick up these really important pieces. As it is my second time I know already what to focus on and know where I went wrong it the first sitting.
I did not appreciate how hard is this paper. Seems to be not, but it is really hard paper. At the exam I had the feeling that I knew so much I did not know what to chose to say about…
