I’ve passed F5 & F6 in June this year and am looking to take two exams in December 2011.
I’ve seen off F1 – F6 so far, with only F3 remaining. I’m planning to take F3 as a CBE sometime in either in October 2011 or in January 2012.So, as the title says, which two of F7, F8 or F9 should I take?
F7 & F3 are linked, so should I tackle F3 first and get familiar with its topics then do F7 in June 2012? Or are they close enough in syllabus that doing them in the same session will be an advantage?
Apparently F8 requires knowledge from F7, so do these together or not? These exams are on 2 consecutive days which I don’t particularly want to do.
Which of the 3 do people think are the hardest? Longest? Would best go together?
I’d appreciate the thoughts of people who have taken the above exams. Cheers.

August 29, 2011 at 12:37 pm #86227All i would say is F7 and F9 together would be a challenge to do together both are numerical, If i study 2 together i find it much easier for a theory and a numerical paper.
Don’t think you really need F7 knowledge to do F8, Maybe a bit but you could say that about all the F papers as there are a lot of cross overs.
Out of all the F papers i found F7 the most challenging the only one i had failed at first attempt, Time in the exam was the biggest factor, But everyone is different.
On the basis of what you have said i would do F3 as you need this knowledge before you tackle F7. Then do F8 and F9 together followed by F7 after.
September 4, 2011 at 8:11 pm #86228If you are planning to do F3 in October then go for it buddy, get it out of the way and then do F7 and F8. You will cover some F3 areas in F7 so will be a walk through for you.
F8 needs book knowledge and understanding too,I would say when studying it, try to understand the concept and you will be fine when you are doing the past papers at the end, otherwise if you just whiz through the syllabus will be hard for you at the end.
Definitely do F7 and F8 rather than F7 and F9, as both are numerical.
All the best…

I won’t be able to do the F3 CBE till after the December exams now, not enough time to thoroughly prepare for it before doing two of F7,F8 or F9 in December.
How about doing F8 and F9 in December, then F3 CBE up to 31 Jan 2012, then F7 & one of the P’s in June?
How does that sound? Any better options I should take?
September 10, 2011 at 7:48 pm #86230F7 and F8 or F8 and F9 but as u r sitting F3 before i prefer F7 and F8.
September 10, 2011 at 11:26 pm #86231No, F3 after the Dec 2011 session, so it’s not a good idea to do F7 in December before I have done F3 right?
September 11, 2011 at 6:23 pm #86232Do F7 and F8 definitely as F8 paper might have some qs that require F7 knowledge. Try to do F9 (numerical) with P1 or P3 (theoretical), or maybe with P2 (which draws from F7 knowledge).
September 17, 2011 at 1:31 pm #86234Hey guys thanks for your thoughts.
I’ve started tuition for F9 already now, so that’s one definite exam.
I am most likely going to start F8 next week. I am worried though that not having knowledge of F7 & F3 will hinder me in F8.
Do you think I can get by or will it be difficult for me?
September 17, 2011 at 2:15 pm #86235I did F7 and F8 together and passed both by just using O.T and BPP kit only. it helped me to do them together. Not having done F3 and F7 will not affect on your F8 as long as you put more effort, same time I know its too late but if you study for F7 doing F3 like so easy.
September 23, 2011 at 4:51 pm #86236hi aam2009,
Do you have any prior knowledge of accounting etc? IAS’s? F8 does incorporate IAS’s and their application, F7 and F8 is an alright combination but without doing F3 and jumping to F8, Im not sure if it’d be a wise decision.
I wish you all the very best.

I haven’t really got prior knowledge of accounting apart from simple balance sheets, profit & loss accounts etc.
Therefore I’m just doing the F9 exam at this session and will study F3 at home for a CBE exam for early next year. I’ll attack F7 & F8 in June 2012.
I appreciate all the responses. Thanks.
