Each paper, be it CAT, or Part 1 or 2 or 3 of ACCA has a study guide and syllabus. I’m sure we all are aware of it. It’s easily available on the accaglobal website. We might have even glanced at it. Some studied it deeply in order to be acquainted with what is covered in the syllabus.

I understand it is a valuable resource for which ACCA allocates on the website, spends time and money(staff cost) to prepare it and keeps updating it periodically. But are we actually making the most of it?

Personally, I just glance through it to get an idea of the main topics as reading the whole syllabus deeply is time consuming. Not much of the detail sticks in memory but I don’t put effort to memorize as rote learning is not the goal.

Is the detailed syllabus given, so that we can come and tick it off once we complete the relevant chapters?

Is it provided to assist tutors in their teaching?

Please provide suggestion and advise as to how to make this resource really resourceful.

All examining bodies (not only the ACCA) provide syllabuses so that students, tutors, (and the examiner!) know what topics can be examined. The ACCA reviews the syllabuses every year and makes changes where relevant. Tutors similarly make the necessary changes to their material each year if there are changes in the syllabus.

If you are using our resources and current editions of other study material then you can be assured that it is in line with the current syllabus and there is no specific need to look at the syllabus yourself. If you are using old books, then you do need to check with the syllabuses to make sure you are studying the correct topics.
