    Hi,

I am going to take the F5 exam next sitting but I am wondering out of F7 and F9 which would be the best to accompany this exam. From looking at the exam timetable F9 might be better suited as there is a bigger study break between both papers.

I think F7 would be better (I assume you have already taken F6??).

The reason is that although many people seem to think that F5 and F9 are similar, in fact they are very different. It can cause real confusion to do F5 and F9 in the same sitting.

Well i would say you can take a reading paper along with F5 , so my advice is take F8.

Randy: What you say is fine, except the question asked about the choice between F7 and F9!

(Also, please do not answer in this forum – it is the Ask the ACCA tutor forum, and you are not the tutor 🙂 Please answer in the general F5 forum instead.)

    Hi John and Randy.

Thank you for the response and advice. I have already taken F6 and F8 so I just have these 3 before I can move onto the P level.

I think F7 will be the best option. Guess I will be finished my exams early this year

    Yes, certainly.

It is a good combination because it combines a ‘numbers’ paper (F5) with a ‘writing’ paper (F8)

There is not really ever a ‘best’ combination!

The ACCA recommend (sensibly) that papers are taken in numerical order, and so I would suggest taking F5 and F6 together.

However, there are two reasons why you might prefer F8 instead of F6. One is that if you fail F6 in December, then it will mean that when you take it again in June next year then some of the tax rules may be different.
Also, paper F8 has no calculations – so some people prefer to take a calculation paper (F5) together with a written paper (F8) rather than take two calculation papers at the same time.

It is your choice. On balance I would still suggest F5 and F6.

Thank you John. I appreciate your explanation. I will go with F8.

shoaib: Why have you written F7? The latest question on here was asking between F6 and F8 (no mention of F7!)
    🙂

(and please do not answer in this forum. It is Ask the ACCA Tutor Forum, and you are not the tutor 🙂 )
