The question is why you want another qualification? There is no point to collect. What you want to do in your work life should determine what qualification you are studying for. CIMA is more for people who want to manage the manufacturing companies – they don’t have taxes, audit, law exams. If you want to work in practice ACCA is preferable. If financial services ACCA more often required. After ACCA you would get some exemptions in CIMA. You can go further for CTA – chartered tax advisor – if you want to work with taxes. You will not be able to have all chartered qualifications – in UK everything can be chartered – accountant, auditor, tax advisor, banker, insurer etc. What you want to do in your life should tell you what to do next, but for most people ACCA is the end of the journey. For example to even start exams for CTA you need to have first two years of experience of working within taxes. Get a life. You can’t study all your life.

Another qualification that you could go for after ACCA is CFA (chartered financial analyst) if you want to work in banking etc..
However I agree with pannanikt – why do you want another qualification? The ACCA Qualification is more than enough for most professions – afterwards more depends on your abilities at work and your ambitions.
It is only really worthwhile going for another qualification if it is specific to your particular field of work.

    @John Moffat.

I work in a bank. Do I really need CFA after ACCA? What value would CFA add? Could you throw more light on this?

Go to ACCA global website, to exemptions module, type the name of the qualification your frien helds/name of school as well and you will see. Nobody probably will answer your question here as there are 424 000 of students around the world and everybody’s path may be different. You can also simply e-mail ACCA or call them in your country. It seems to be the easiest option to find out.

Is it necessary to do CFA if you are ACCA with P4 as option?
What about university degree in Msc in Finance, Msc Quantitative finance or MBA?
I have a master degree in industrial engineering however I have started work for a practice and decided to do ACCA qualification. I have struggled to pass F1-F9 and now I am at the Professional level of the qualification (I hope I will pass them all one day), I am wondering now if I have to think about an university degree since for most finance jobs an university degree at a master level is often required.

Yes it is true. You are exempted from all foundation and skill level papers that is f-1 to f-9 you have to, however, pass all essential papers in professional level and 2 electives.

To share a piece of my mind regarding what to do after ACCA, I have to say that it depends on your circumstances. Let me tell you my story.

I am an Indian resident and a full member of ACCA and now doing CPA (Australia), where I had exemptions except 4 papers, after this my objective to is to gain CA of India by the virtue of MRA between CPA (A) and ICAI.

If you ask me why this long route, I have to tell you that there is no route or exemption available in ICAI exams for those who are a member of another professional body with whom ICAI has no MRA or MOU. In this circumstances if I want to complete ICAI, then I will spend at least 5 years to gain the CA status.

In India other than CA of India, equivalent qualifications from other countries are not recognised by most employers except some multinational companies and big four audit firms. ACCA could not so far strike a deal with ICAI, while ICAEW and AIA from UK has inked a MOU with ICAI. If my understanding is correct AIA is not a IFAC member body.

There are 2 attempts a year May and November. I am yet to experience the difficulty level as my first exam is scheduled in May 2015 and my studies are yet to start. From different forums of CPA students it is known that the level of difficulty is more or less equal to ACCA papers.

The foundation level has 8 papers which I am fully exempted by virtue of ACCA and 2 out of 6 from professional level. The papers I have to complete are Financial reporting, Ethics and Governance, Strategic business and leadership and 1 elective.

    As YASHIK said.
Is it possible to do a PhD directly with your ACCA qualification? If there is any university that can grant admission to do a PhD kindly put me in connection.

This is probably a little late, but you can’t enter ICAI through MOU by CPA(A) when you already have entered CPA(A) with MOU with ACCA.
    Check ICAI’s website.

@sathjyot, I am ACCA member contemplating the same move. I have been living outside of India for a long time and now I wish to obtain the CA qualification through the CPA (A) route like you.

Could you please share with me if your plan has been successful so far and were you able to finish CPA and get exemptions for the indian CA program.
