Hi All,
I recently finished all ACCA exam and working as an AP in a private company.
As my knowledge and expertise are not really utilized much at work, one day i feel afraid of forgetting my ACCA training (accounting standards etc). Although i try to read article posted on ACCA web , still there is no much forces to stimulate me work on this..I guess some of you might have the same feeling..So i am thinking of creating a group to go over paper by paper . This could enable us to learn each other by going over study material or by sharing working experience..
If you are on the same page, please drop me an email to tracynht.ca@gmail.com then we all could discuss how the team should work on..
p.s: I am currently working in Toronto- Canada…so time zone difference is essential to consider in case we are from different countries..
Thank you

Anyway, my advice is try to volunteer to do full set of accounts of charitable organisations, there are plenty looking for support. There are ones that pay a bit of money, there are also part time / remote work available out there. The key is putting your knowledge into practice but you cannot possibly retain all of it, as we tend to forget if we don’t practise or use the knowledge.

May 30, 2017 at 5:17 pm #389063Hi,
well done on passing your exams. I think the previous advice on volunteer work would help you. If in the future you want to apply for the membership that can count towards your application. I have recently passed my exams and applied for membership.
I think I will need to stay up to date in order to maintain this status, therefore demonstrate that I am going to events, read articles. I am working, however even in practice you cannot really be a guru in everything, at some point you will specialise.
I will advice you to volunteer, maybe a part time job in finance and when you can, to move into a full time role.
I am working as a finance analyst, and to be honest never had the experience to work with IFRS, group accounts, investments etc… therefore the membership should fill this gap (at least be aware).Maybe you will choose to give up that membership at some point, if let’s say you specialise in an area far away from finance. I see people in my organisation that are proud to be qualified accountant, even though their current role has nothing to do with that.
But I think it will help you in the first few years after you passed your exam. I have updated my resume saying that I am ACCA Affiliate (explaining that my manager will approve soon my objectives) and believe me I receive more calls than ever. Good luck with whatever you decide.. 🙂
