Hello,
I don’t know if it’s appropriate to post my question here but I did’t find other topics about it.
In the resubmission statement form, I see the signature on the last line. Do I have to print it out, sign on it and then scan again so I have a soft copy? Can I submit a word file of the resubmission statement?
Thanks.
May 17, 2015 at 2:47 pm #246581@Ha – just load it as in the most convenient format. It is obvious if you are uploading it as part of your submission that it is your statement even with no signature – after all you are not required to sign your report or SLS! (The form itself itself is probably from the past era of when hard copy submissions were the norm)

Hi All,
I am looking for some help…..
I failed my SLS in last submission period with below feedback
Q1: Re submission Statement ; Should I include my 4th meeting with the mentor in which he helped me access the feedback ?
Q2: Revises SLS : While answering Question 1 should I make reference of my 4th meeting ( Post Result) with the mentor or just re-write the old Original in the light of feedback ?
Q3: I need some help on Presentation, how to make it and achieved pass in it
Thanks
“Reasons for fail and advice for improvement:
Q 1 is unfortunately largely descriptive of the events that transpired at the 3 mentor meetings. What you need to do is to look at these events
and point out whether either before or after the process you were able to take advantage of strengths you already had or were able to erode
possible weaknesses you might have. What did you learn?Q 2 you should look at specifically the initial research objectives you outlined
and seek to assess whether you were able to fully meet them in the course of completing your report. This can be both positive and negative
points of consideration. It isn’t though enough just to relate what they were without any further insights on your part. You adopt a SelfEvaluation
not achievement of Research objectives as an heading and what you cover is off the point from that point on.”“Reasons for fail and advice for improvement:
There is no early slide that states what the project objectives actually are and the Conclusion slide is very general in terms of what it
suggests.”“Moderator Comments
Moderator agrees with marker comments. The slides 11, 12, 14 are too dense and contain too much information to fit on the slide. “May 17, 2015 at 8:18 pm #246679@faizy7
Q1 &Q2 It is entirely up to you if you include the 4th meeting but read my comments above to tina22 as they are very relevant to the problem you are having with your SLS
Q3 – You have to consider whether you are communicating your MAIN findings effectively in the given 15 mins. allowed. Do not cram too many graphs on one slide – you do not have to show absolutely every ratio in graphs in the Presentation – just the significant ones. Use bullet points. The marker & moderator have set out what else they expect.
May 19, 2015 at 6:56 am #247054I have failed on period 29 on Research Report. Last time, I have prepared my Appendix in Excel where annual reports were added in excel worksheets. Do I have to prepare annual report in PDf format on my resubmission?
May 19, 2015 at 9:41 am #247099@sfarhan06 – you can do the same as last time. It is probably best if you can actually link the ratio calculations back to the statements, rather than just showing the statements as pdf anyway. (You cannot submit the whole annual report as pdf because of file limits )
May 19, 2015 at 11:52 am #247155This is what I did last time .. in a worksheet, I have prepared financial statements of both companies as to annual report. Then Ive calculated the ratio by linking the respective cells.
Ive knocked Obu official as well: his reply was more diplomatic than expected 🙁
“You just need to include the relevant extracts from the annual reports. Most students upload these in pdf format. You can upload more than one appendix. ”
I really dont have time to prepare pdf. Is it ok if my submit Excel appendix with annual reports in it.
May 19, 2015 at 12:58 pm #247172@sfarhan06 – as long as you are using the most recent statements for your analysis then there is no problem either way. Linking your ratios to the extracts demonstrates spreadsheet skills but if you passed 7 last time then you do not need to pass this again, so do what is easier for you. (If the reader/marker wants more details they can normally view the full accounts online so don’t worry as long as there are sufficient extract details in your Excel spreadsheet to support your graphs and ratios)
June 28, 2015 at 9:54 pm #259018Hello
I submitted my RAP in period 28 but failed, I applied five forces now I want to apply PEST analysis rather than five forces because I’m facing difficulty in applying five forces again. please ensure me that it is good decision and examiner will accept it?June 29, 2015 at 12:12 am #259034@Mohsin -are we talking Topic 8 here? In my opinion Porter’s 5 Forces is a useful strategic tool for management but a less useful model for students to apply in their RAP. The purpose of the models (as I explain in the article on Evaluation & Analysis) is too make you think about the factors that impact on the company and which influence management decisions so that you can help explain the changes in the ratio analysis. PEST & SWOT are much better in this, respect. Yes you can change models for your resubmission. 🙂

Please Trephena , my research went to ACO in period 29 and i was asked to write on a different topic and different company. My question is that do issue a re-submission statement? i am submitting this november 2015.
October 7, 2015 at 3:51 pm #275433@omerfayyazz – this is a bit of a conundrum. I have just looked at the information pack p.42 and it does not differentiate between the main company and the comparator when stipulating that the latest financial statements must be used. In the absence of clarification on this then it has to be interpreted as meaning the latest financial statements of BOTH companies. However the ’90 day rule’ also comes into effect. When you look at the reports of the auditors see if the date it was signed off by them is 90 days before 1 November 2015. If it was then you must use the 2015 statements for that company, if it wasn’t then you are OK to use 2014. However I would mention the disparity in the dates in the limitations of the data section of your report
October 7, 2015 at 4:22 pm #275434@chickcynthia. As you are doing a different company and topic then there is no compulsion to write a resubmission statement. However I would advise you to read up on Evalution and Analysis and Referencing (there are articles on our homepage http://www.opentuition.com/obu
as these are the two most common reasons for failure and look at the Forum ‘Top Tips for the RAP’ as these should help you avoid some of the problems as obviously you want to be successful this time.If you really want to give it your best shot and you have the time and as you are having to start from scratch I would suggest that you consider Topic 17. This if done properly has a high pass rate and 2 students who have followed my guidance on that forum have confirmed that they have passed with a grade B. Obviously with a resubmission you can now only achieve a C but if you read the posts on T17 and adhere to the advice you will stand a good chance of getting a pass like these students at your next attempt.
October 8, 2015 at 11:38 am #275523@trephena thanks for the reply.
i have checked and it is already been 90 days since 2015 annual report is issued for comparator company. therefore i am compelled to incorporate 2015 report in my accounts.
now kindly guide me what should i do with my main company.as there is no 2015 annual report published yet.
i am afraid my comparison will no longer be like with like comparison.
also guide me if i want to avoid these complications and completely change my company for resubmission. will i have to write a totally new report (including part 1 and 2 which i totally passed) ?October 8, 2015 at 9:53 pm #275605AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

Thank you very much Trephena for your reply.
October 9, 2015 at 8:15 am #275622@trephena please respond to the message
October 9, 2015 at 8:49 pm #275691@ omerfayazz are you sure that is 2015 accounts or 2014 accounts which were finalized in 2015, if its 2015 accounts I am sure they should be half year, if that’s the case I am sure you can still use the 2012 – 2014 accounts but just highlight the issue.
October 10, 2015 at 9:18 am #275719@denmaster
yes it is 2015 accounts for the year ended 31st march 2015 of competitor company
however the year end of main company is also 31st march 2015 but annual report for 2015 is not issued yet
thats why i am confused how to ammend my RAP for resubmission.
dont want to take any risk.October 10, 2015 at 5:53 pm #275802@omerfayyazz – that is bad news that the main company still hasn’t published its March 2015 accounts – most companies aim to get them out in 90 days. Are really they still not out as that would now be 180 days! This is going to cause a prob because effectively for P31 they are going to be so out of date by then (about 19 months old). If they are now available somewhere use them as the 90 day OBU rule only applies to the fact they don’t want you to use old statements but really recently published ones are fine…
I don’t like advising prorating but I think you may have to consider this i.e. using the last quarterly or half year accounts they produced (I trust they did???) even if they are not audited. It would be a pain but the markers won’t accept statements that are so old as Mar 2014. Decision time:
1. Prorating OR
2. Changing main companyThat’s bad luck for you but I can’t really think what else you can do…. 🙁
October 30, 2015 at 10:55 am #279672I passed my SLS and presentation, but not my RAP. I want to clarify if I need to re-submit the presentation if I am re-submitting my RAP with new audited numbers published recently?
My second concern is if I need to attend meetings again and provide mentor details for the re-submission?
October 30, 2015 at 1:15 pm #279676@maathangi – you are spared resubmitting the SLS and Presentation. No formal mentor meetings required but you will need an OBU listed mentor to sign off your work and need to put in his/her details as part of the new submission process. If not listed you won’t be able to submit at all
November 2, 2015 at 9:41 pm #280148I would appreciate if you will resolve my query regarding re submission of SLS. In May 2015 session i was awarded fail in SLS on Self Reflection only. my marker comments states that
‘ The emphasis in my SLS in on description of events and show little evaluation of my self development and there was too little discussion of my strength and weakness that become apparent during RAP”I need to ask whether i need to amend only question one of SLS which consist of all meetings with mentor OR all 4 question are needed to be amended to included Self -reflection and strength and weaknesses?
November 5, 2015 at 3:22 pm #280619@faizi4422 – you should review your answers to all 4 Qs but probably significantly ‘rewrite’ Q1 & 2. The markers want you to show what you learned from going from an ACCA student just studying and sitting exams to researching independently and producing a 7,500 word report. They are not interested in what your mentor or you did and said but why and how it affected things and helped achieve objectives. In Q2 they want to know what strengths you built on what weaknesses you had to overcome and any particular challenges you encountered. They don’t want something that is idealised – just the trials, tribulations and successes and how your learning and development and skill set gained from the process
