Results of an election opinion poll published in a newspaper.
Is this primary or secondary data?
My answer : since this data was collected primarily for other purpose and can be used by entity, this is a secondary data.
But the answer says differently:
d) This is primary data since the data was collected specifically for the purpose. If you said secondary data you were probably thinking that the results were being used to predict the result of the election; this is different from the reason why it was collected.
I am confused a little, could you please explain which one is correct?
It is primary data because it was collected simply to be able to publish the results in the newspaper. It wasn’t being use to predict the election result or any other reason.
