Will the examiner mark me for plagiarism if I uploaded my document on turnitin to check for it? I did save my turnitin details though
Turnitin is a program, it will do what it is designed to do i.e.match text it recognises as already being in its huge repository. So yes it will match it (just like when someone resubmits it matches their work to their previous report) so will return an extremely high Turnitin score. In turn this will normally mean that your result will automatically be deferred and referred to the Academic Conduct Office.
The Information Pack suggests if anyone wants to check their work then they need to use the specifically recommended program to avoid this. However as a lecturer and mentor I tell students that provided you refrain from copy and paste and use your own words throughout, then plagiarism is not an issue, and therefore there should be no need to use any plagiarism checker…..
I used a product of Turnitin called iThenticate to be specific. Fortunately, I only uploaded my SLS so far which I can re-do quickly! A 100 dollars wasted though 🙁
No you may be Ok after all as I believe that is the version that the University recommends. What you can do is contact ACCA@Brookes.according.UK and confirm this . (I think it is actually the student version of Turnitin and probably does not save your work to the main database). Either way save your receipt for the payment and the report ithe program returned and you could even upload copies of these with your report submission to preempt any issues.
Good luck!
