As the topic heading : ] i am doing topic 8
How many business models need i write, feel like SWOT will be enough for my RAP
after my SWOT analysis, just felt that it will be too much passage for business models if i write another PEST analysis.
i have done my SWOT , each of them got 3 bullet point with reference , it takes lot of words of RAP , is that ok that i just write one business models and followed by financial analysis ??
thanks for your help

Mostly, 2 models are done. Not sure if 1 model will be accepted, but definitely it will reduce your grade if given a pass.
October 21, 2017 at 1:17 am #412724thanks ,@Ehsan
is that acceptable that i use lot words for the first models and less for second model ? really felt that too much work for SWOT , will not do the same amount of work on PEST any more, maybe just a short and quick briefing for PEST , is that acceptable ? or ,must two models are same heavy as each other ?October 21, 2017 at 2:04 am #412725And further more question about the — research questions .
Do i need to insert each of research questions into the main body of my RAP again after i put them in the beginning part ?
Where do i indicated that i already answered clearly for my research questions
October 21, 2017 at 9:07 am #412755Both models should be balanced. One model shouldn’t be exceptionally lengthy than other or vice versa.
No need to repeat research question, but you will answer the questions in conclusion part in part 3 after analysis.

October 21, 2017 at 12:52 pm #412777Again, Can someone guide me regarding my RAP on boeing vs airbus, how should i discuss the industry analysis, i am a bit confused, here’s what i have done, I have written about the evolution of the aerospace industry from the beginning keeping in mind that I only have to discuss the aspects of Commercial aircraft manufacturing, secondly whenever i try to search about the industry revenue of commercial aircraft manufacturing sector, i end up being lost and the revenues i found on internet, are the revenues of aerospace and “DEFENSE” industry, so without wasting further time I have changed my approach and I am discussing about aircraft deliveries in the last three years, and orders booked by the manufacturers and not discussing about the revenues until part 3 where i will be discussing the revenues of airbus and boeing only, as a comparative.
Experts please guide me
October 21, 2017 at 1:58 pm #412783My second query is, the different currencies of top 5 commercial aircraft manufacturing companies, boeing’s currency is US$, airbus’s currency is Euro, Embardier’s is Canadian $ and Embraer is Brazillian Real, so while doing industry analysis, should i look for the US $ revenues of all the companies stated above ?? or as per my opinion, i am discussing their performance over three years so i should use their published accounts and their revenues and comment on them without translating it to US dollars?
October 26, 2017 at 11:04 am #413270i also have some doubts in referencing Annual Report for many times , for example: AA company
in text citation i put corporation author and pages (AA 2016, P10)
in reference list i will put
AA 2016, AA Annual Report 2016. About us. p.10. Available at: https://www.aa.com/.
am i doing correctly by indicate pages that i used ?
or should i just put in text citation as (AA annual report, 2016) for every single use of annual report and one reference list reference
which one is correct one ??? thanks for your advice
December 18, 2017 at 11:23 am #423908Hi Trephena,
i have this confusion over these two statements if you can answer or if its already answered please refer it..In the second one it says you can resubmit an updated version. Can you please explain. As i had first submission in period 34 on topic 8 so should i use latest financials or the same ones.is it an option to use the updated ones? cant seem to understand.
“When resubmitting, it is not necessary to use the latest financial statements provided you resubmit within any of the next 4 periods following your original submission. This ONLY applies if you are resubmitting on the same topic and organisation. If you have changed topic and/or organisation, you MUST use the latest financial statements.
If you are resubmitting your RR on topic 8 or 15 and your last submission was in period 32, 33 or 34 then you can resubmit an updated version of your previous topic and organisation.”
Thanks
December 27, 2017 at 11:21 pm #424970There are new rules on this: If resubmitting, provided your previous submission was no more than 3 periods before the current one then you may use the same financial statements i.e. there is no need to update (although if you wish to, you may). If you did the original submission more than 2 years before then you must update and use the latest financial statements.
For most people this means they are spared having to update

Does anyone know where I can get a sample report on topic 8.I need it to just put structure into my own report writing.Sometimes it just helps to see what someone else has done to help get inspiration on better ways of doing yours.
February 1, 2018 at 7:09 am #434358Hi Trephena ,i am working on topic 8 for submission.would it be okay to take Hilton as the main company then take kempenski as the operator.kindly advice
Thanks.February 1, 2018 at 12:10 pm #434414Provided you can get the financial statements for both. And don’t translate currencies -it is totally unnecessary as that is why you use ratios (they automatically provide a means of comparison)

hey
i wanted to ask that in obu topic food industry can i choose nestle but it includes food and drinks in its list so how should i prepare my project by talking about food only or should choose any other company. can you share if any examples. thanks a lot. reply soon
February 4, 2018 at 11:08 am #435038Yes you may use Nestle. Moat of your financial figures won’t distinguish between particular products so look for trends in the data.
It is always a good idea to start the Findings section with a detailed application of the models. This is because the factors from the business environment will influence management strategic decisions and direction. These decisions in turn and business environment factors impact on the results and financial performance. Focussing your analysis this way round is likely to make it both easier for you and will bring in the necessary depth of evaluation. (Rather than taking figures almost in isolation and coming up with text book /annual report type comments about the changes in the figures themselves rather than explaining what has actually caused and lies behind such changes.
We do not actually encourage the use of sample work. Get ideas about structure and layout from the Information Pack
February 5, 2018 at 6:43 pm #435334Thank u for answering my query.
I am planning to submit my RAP in May 2018.
Can i choose Nestle as the main company and Tyson foods as the competitor?February 6, 2018 at 2:06 pm #435483@trephena
Hello trephena . I am currently doing my rap on Boeing & Airbus and I need your guidance to answer a few questions.
1) Since Airbus has not yet publish it’s 2017 f/s, should I just include 2014 & 15 analysis in my rap .
2) When comparing Boeing, should I explain all the changes in Boeing as well . Cause doing so, would cause me to write alot.
3) I am having difficulties in comparing the current ratio of Airbus with Boeing. What I mean is I cannot understand why Boeing has a higher ratio than Airbus . What must I read to form a better analysis.
Thanking you in advance for your responseFebruary 6, 2018 at 4:11 pm #435500AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

Hello Trephena,
Pls, I want to know if I can use Airbus vs Boeing? But they are in different parts of the world. Will this not affect my RAP adversely? Thanks.February 7, 2018 at 8:46 am #435625@trephena
Can I take fast food chains as my company? For example, Mc Donald with KFC as a compartor? I’m concerned because I feel they don’t really fall into hotels or food products…February 7, 2018 at 11:57 am #435650AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

Hello,
I’m considering submitting a RAP within this current (May 2018) period, and feel that my strengths probably lie mostly in Topic 8. Sadly, the industry sectors just seem awful.
I think the way to keep it as simple as possible is to think small (in terms of companies), and only big enough for them to have written a half-way decent strategic report. The idea of trying to take on Boeing or Airbus seems like biting off more than I can chew (in 7,500 words and 3 months, anyway).
Therefore I’m leaning more towards hotels, specifically basing the RAP on Travelodge (a UK limited company, not plc). For comparison, the natural choice would perhaps be Premier Inn (Whitbread) as they are the most direct competitor for Travelodge.
I therefore have 3 questions, which I would appreciate guidance on:
1. Do you have to perform comparisons against a different company (such as Premier Inn/Whitbread), or could I benchmark Travelodge against industry sector averages for those three years?
2. If I must benchmark against a specific company, how much detailed analysis do you need to go into regarding that company? I guess too much and it will end up being a RAP on two companies, so do you just note what their performance was in the same market environment to put Travelodge’s performance in context?
3. If I am unable to adequately seperate Costa and the restaurants out of Whitbread’s accounts to isolate Premier Inn’s performance, can Whitbread still be used as a comparator, with perhaps a note highlighting the limitations of this?
In addition, if there are any others out there who are looking at this sector I’d appreciate any potential research leads you’ve identified. I will of course share any useful sources I find, too.
Thanks
O.

Hello,
Please can anyone help me with the below enquiry?
As a small update, after having looked into Travelodge Hotels Ltd’s accounts thus far, I believe I’ve made the correct choice of business to study. They provide a detailed and interesting picture of the company.
I do however also have a further question:
4. Travelodge Hotels Ltd are part of a group of companies, where there are several intra-group loans and interest received, as well as some being written off. I consider this to be largely background noise and of no real consequence to the business and financial performance. Can I therefore restate the figures excluding these intra-group movements for my analysis and comparisons?
Thank you.

February 12, 2018 at 8:32 pm #436642Hello,
I am submitting my RAP in May and was really struggling finding the right info for aerospace companies so I’ve been looking up food manufacturers.
Would it be okay to pick “The J.M. Sucker Company” as my primary company and “Del Monte Foods” as a competitor?
Both companies have food manufacturing and packing as a primary activity and have relevant financials and the same year ends. J.M. Smucker’s is listed and I have been able to find some analyst reports and news articles from reuters and other sources so that I don’t rely too heavily on the annual reports for my analysis. I think Del Monte Foods is listed but I feel I’ll be able to find some external sources of info here and there.
Do let me know if I can proceed with these companies. Need to finish 3000 words by next week.
Regards,
