I have been teaching myself all of the ACCA and only have 4 papers to go. I also work full time and have a family.
I took a break before Christmas, but am struggling to get motivated again. Usually by the time I sit down to study I just want to sleep!! Nothing new there, but I know I need to get back into a routine which I am finding hard. I did sit down this morning and got a little bit done, but I really need to be working at a better and faster pace. I know due to my commitments I have to work in chunk size pieces at a regular pace, there is no way I can put my life on hold and cram the week before.
Does anybody have any tips to get studying effectively again? I am nearly finished, but just need a push!

I’m in the same boat so to speak as you are with 5 papers to go, a family to support, working full-time hours of 37 per week over 4 days. I make the time to study by drawing up a timetable – 1 paper per evening after 7pm. I know it’s not the quantity of study but the quality so I accept because I’m tired in the evenings, I could do an hour of studying but only learn whatever the equivalent of 30 mins of studying is. It takes me longer to study, digest and understand information when tired so it’s worth doing a bit per week than nothing at all. After everyone else has settled into bed, I have a shower, make myself a cup of strong coffee to wake me up and try to do at least an hour. It’s not easy some nights but you have to sacrifice a lot of things as it will be worth it at the end when you finish all the exams. Think of the end, it’s all over, you’ve passed your exams and how proud you and your family are of that achievement 🙂February 17, 2013 at 6:24 pm #118086first of all wannabeact i m really findin ur story to be true.i mean without any tuition help how did u finish all this papers, anyways if u say its true thn hats of to u for wot u hav accomplished.i wud say capacity is a state of mind if u believe u need sth done ur mind will find ways to get thr,but if u give negative signals to ur brain it will be counterproductive,u hav got to believe u can do it and onli u can convience urself,u hv got to remember sth tht doesnt kills u makes u stronger, maybe someday u cud tell ur kids abt ur accomplishment nd hardwork nd give them inspiration.and i dnt see how u can quit on urself whn ur jst 4 papers away, u hv got to push urself, u hv got to give it ur all.

February 18, 2013 at 3:47 pm #118151I am in the same boat man. I am VP (F) in a company with annual turn over of around $200 Mil. With hectic work schedule and a 9 month and 72 year (my father in law)old babies at home. I am not young as you all may be, as I am 45 and is going through the same situation as wannabeact, motivation!!. I completed all my F level last december. However I am determined. Come what may I would not allow this to die down at this juncutre. It is now or never. Let your family members be your motivators. My wife is my motivator. The major motivating factor is your burning desire and determination, nothing else.

Yes, I have taught myself it all. So like sathjyot I am tired when I sit down, so I do allow myself much longer. Also, I teach myself so I have to go over things a lot more than if I was in a classroom.
I think I have just got out of a routine, so will draw a timetable like maypen172 says. This week I will give myself some treats for starting again!
