    Good evening,
I am busy practicing the F5 past paper dated September 2016. I think I am just being completely blind here but for the life of me cannot figure it out.

    Question 11 (MCQ) states:

A manufacturing company uses three processes to make its two products, X and Y. The time available on the three processes is reduced because of the need for preventative maintenance and rest breaks.

Process Hours available per day Hrs. Required X Hrs. Required Y
    1 22 1 0.75
    2 22 0.75 1
    3 18 1 0.5

Daily demand for X and Y is 10 and 16 respectively.

The correct answer is that Process 2 is the bottleneck but I don’t see how.
Process 3 only produces 9 product Y’s per day, so should process 3 not be the bottleneck?

Please help me wrap my brain around this- Thank you so much!!

    Hi Mr. Moffat,

Sorry I figured it out. I was not thinking clearly. Maybe just typing this question out helped me to wake up.

I was calculating it completely wrong, but have now solved it. Thank you very much

No need to thank me (because I didn’t do anything 🙂 )

I am pleased that you have sorted it out.
