Hello sir,
Could you please help me with this question?
A manufacturing co uses throughput a/cing.It manufactures two products x and y using the same types of machine(Machine m and machine t) for both products.Machine time on machine type m is a production bottleneck. The foll info is available.
Product x. Product yTpar. 2.4mnts. 30min
Machine M time
Pu produced. 15 mints. 30 mintsMachine T time
Pu produced. 30 mints. 20 mintsThere is unltd sales dd for both products.
If extra prodn capacity is made available amounting to 10 extra machine M hours and 10 extra machine T hours how many additional units of output would be produced in order to maximise profit.
Answer is 20 units of product Y
Could you please explain how do we come to conclusion to this answer
Thanks

The question as you have typed it does not make any sense. You have quoted the TPAR’s in minutes, but it is never quoted in minutes!
March 26, 2019 at 12:43 pm #510476Hello sir
Yes sir it’s from Bpp Revision Kit.
But it’s not shown it’s working.
Sorry sir Tpar was not in minutes it’s just 2.4 and 3.0 it was typing error.March 26, 2019 at 2:52 pm #510486If they used the extra hours to make product X, then M could make an extra 40 units and T could make an extra 20 units. However they would therefore be limited to an extra 20 units (no point in M making more than T could deal with).
If on the other hand they used the extra hours to make product Y, then M could make an extra 20 units and T could make an extra 50 units. So they would therefore be limited to making an extra 20 units.
So the choice is to either make an extra 20 units of X or to make an extra 20 units of Y.
Y has the higher TPAR, and so they will choose to make an extra 20 units of Y.November 20, 2019 at 11:34 am #553151Hi sir even though question said M is bottleneck i had a question
slowest one should be bottleneck right. M total is 15 + 30 = 45 minutes where as T is 50
so shouldnt T be bottleneckNovember 20, 2019 at 1:18 pm #553160The times are for different products – it makes no sense to add them up.
