I am confused on the BCG model, is it use on the product or the Strategic Business Unit?
It can be used for both. Often different products are dealt with by separate SBUs. Some indication about to do with either a product or an SBU can be found in the BCG analysis. For example, for a problem child you have to decide whether to get out (abandon product or the SBU) or promote it to star status.
