Hi, I decided to take P4 now, a little late in the year but I believe it can be done. Could you advise on the best approach to take with the exam. For example, hit the ball running with exam questions or going over topic lists. I assume many of the topics are propelled certifications from F9, so going over that module will be relevant. Aside from this, what else can I do?
Probably most importantly, I have noticed that with 99% of modules in ACCA there a “Key” topics that almost always prop up. What are these for P4, if any? Is there a particular preference the examiner has ….
Thank You
Sharm
September 23, 2015 at 5:46 pm #273309Certainly a lot of the topics are repeated from F9, but there are also quite a few new topics. Also, whereas in Paper F9 you are tested on the techniques and your understanding of them there is really just one correct answer. In P4 it is a higher level and you are expected often to make sensible assumptions (as you would have to in practice) – certainly in the 50 mark question there is rarely just one correct answer.
The best approach is to go through the free P4 lectures first (and if you come across something you are not sure about from F9, then watch also the relevant F9 lectures) and then practice as many questions as possible. Certainly all the past questions on the ACCA website, but better still buy a Revision/Exam Kit and work through all the questions there.
Working through questions first is not a good idea!During the next few weeks I will be uploading a ‘Study Guide’ referencing the best questions to practice on after each lecture.
There are not really any key topics. The compulsory 50 mark question always examines lots of topics in the same question – certainly DCF investment appraisal and calculations of the cost of capital are always there. Almost always there is one question testing either foreign exchange risk management or interest rate risk management.
Any problems, ask in this forum and I will try and help 🙂
