    Hi John,

I never thought I’d see this day arrive, but I’ve finally become an affiliate today, having gained 60 marks for P4, first attempt. It hasn’t sunk in yet, I feel I should be studying still! I couldn’t possibly have achieved it without your (and the other tutor’s) help, both through your excellent lectures and by you generously giving your time in answering all my numerous questions I put to you.

My ACCA journey is possibly different to most people’s. I work as a freelance violinist, and during a particularly quiet year about seven years ago, I decided that I wanted to learn a new skill, one which I could learn in my spare time whilst continuing in music. At that stage I knew practically nothing about accounting. I didn’t even know what a ltd company was, I didn’t know what a share was, and my maths skills were extremely basic, to say the least. A friend suggested trying ACCA, but a career adviser at the job centre strongly advised against attempting ACCA, telling me that it was extremely tough. I agree with him, but as I like a challenge, that was all the encouragement I needed to get started!

I took it very steady, taking just 1 exam per 6 months. I relied on the BPP study text and P&R books, and of course on Opentuition. I particularly enjoyed F9 and P4, and I put that largely down to your excellent lectures, where you made the subject interesting and very easy to understand.

So many thanks again for your help!
