Hi Mike,
P7 syllabus has a lot of areas like the corporate governance code (Chapter3) that have a number of provisions(as in requirements relating to NEDS, meetings etc). Do we need to memorise all these things by heart? Also, i have noticed that this is the case with most of the topics, so how should i deal with them? what would be the correct approach to go about it? Do you think just reading through p7 notes along with watching lectures for 3 days, would be sufficient, before i start with practising questions from exam kit?October 23, 2016 at 9:41 am #345658There’s a lot about corporate governance code in the P1 lectures and notes
Maybe a good idea to watch those again, just once through, to refresh your memory. Obviously no need to watch them all (Gray, Owen and Adams are not desperately relevant to P7 and nor is Kant nor Kohlberg.
But the CGC elements are relevant and shouldn’t take too long to go through
OK?
October 23, 2016 at 9:49 am #345660Thanks for your reply Mike. I am anyway doing P1 this December as well. But I don’t understand how I should prepare for P7, do i need to learn all the things (provisions) by heart? are there any key topics which i should focus on at this time? i want to focus on areas which are very important and may be learn them by heart as well to be able to answer questions, and then read through less important ones. this would save time as well. Please guide me in this regard.
Also i have studied Corporate Governance Code in my MSc degree but we had a copy of the code in the examination and then we could do our analysis on the case study. so i am finding it a little hard. i don’t even want to waste time doing things which are less relevant.
Please advise me on this.
October 23, 2016 at 9:58 am #345662The key to both P1 and P7 is reading. Endless reading.
Give up the idea of “learn(ing) them by heart”
Read course notes, listen to the lectures, read technical articles, examiner’s reports, past exam questions and answers, exam technique articles, a revision kit (cover to cover – as many times as you can persuade yourself to do it) … just READ
Over and over the same stuff, each time remembering a little bit more (but this is NOT the learning by heart that you suggest)
Then, at the end of the third week of November, post again for the next instalment of advice
October 23, 2016 at 10:04 am #345664Thank you for your advice. But do you think reading so much would be possible, considering that i am taking p1 and p4 as well?
haven’t started p1 yet and p4- read course notes and watched lectures but yet to do the exam kit.
October 23, 2016 at 10:07 am #345665You’re the one that’s asking, 5 weeks before you take 3 exams, whether you have time!
How can I answer that?
At this stage, reading is your best option – probably for all three papers!
October 23, 2016 at 10:21 am #345667Alright, thanks Mike.
October 23, 2016 at 12:14 pm #345680You’re welcome
