Hello sir
Firstly, Thanks for the offering these good lecturesIn revision, i got questions that
Quite a few past question have asked these two anlaysis (swot and ity) in one question. But after doing swot analysis
Analysis of Suitability (strategy about whether responding to external environment and exploiting internal capability) is quite regurgitating the swot analysis for me.
I hope to know how to correctly separate and construct the answer.Hope to hear soon
Thanks!Regards,
KateAugust 26, 2016 at 8:12 am #335274Also in the paper of dec 2011 question 1,
In The feasibility
The answer said ” there are a number of mismatches. Firstly, GET(firm) has experience of operaring a rail franchise. In Raziackistan(country) there will be different model. The Get has no experience of working under these terms”I understand the statement itself about mismatch between firm’s experience and capability and The capability to manage operation in Raziackistan regardig different model of strategy.
Therefore, i thought the internal capability does not mach with the strategy, which is suitability area. But it was feasibility.
Appreciate for your help!

If you are talking about SWOT then suitability, acceptability and feasibility (ity at the end of each word) then to some extent you are correct. However, SWOT is the initial listing of factors, suitability is making more of a judgement about them to try to come to a conclusion about a strategy. Usually any strategy will have some points in favour of it some against it. It is rare to have all pointers in the same direction.
Therefore in SWOT you might have discovered that there is opportunity to open in another company, but a weakness in the company’s international marketing capabilities. One way or another you have to make the decision whether to open abroad or not so you will be weighing up these points. Your suitability might say something like: There is great opportunity to open in Country X where there are no competitors, but the company is weak in marketing. If the company could remedy this weakness by recruiting an experienced marketing professional then the strategy would be very suitable (of course, the lack of marketing person impacts on feasibility too).
Don’t get worried about whether you assign something to suitability or feasibility. As shown above, these are related. The SFA framework is just a framework to try to get you to look at several factors. It doesn’t really matter where you assign those factors.
August 29, 2016 at 3:40 am #335856I see.
SWOT is simply analysis of strength and opportunity and so on.
but suitability is much related to integration of strength and weakness to lead to firm’s strategy direction. It was helpful about how to form the answer.
Thanks!Regards,
