Hi everyone,
I took F9 for the first time in June 2013 and failed with 47% grr, so have entered to retake in December 2013 sitting.
I am struggling to know the best way to study for this, obviously I have some retained knowledge, but should I just focus on my weakest areas ( WACC and valuations) or study each chapter again? Also I went through every past paper from 2007 so need extra question practice, is it worthwhile doing all these papers again?
Thanks in advance, Issi
September 16, 2013 at 2:23 pm #140577If I were you, I would ((definitely)) study each chapter again, it will be like revision since you have the previous knowledge, but to consider going to the exam to solve the questions of something you have studied 6 months ago is really risky, honestly, I would even consider it guaranteed failing! I am sure you have the knowledge, but indeed you will forget the “details” in 6 month time, knowledge is not enough, the more time passes, the knowledge becomes vague a lil bit, you need to be aware of every detail if you really want to pass any ACCA exam.
Should you practice the questions again? You shouldn’t even ask the question, surely you have to practice more and more to make a difference this time. You need to train yourself again on how to handle F9 questions.
I haven’t failed a paper “so far” so I haven’t been in this situation before. but I am giving my advice based on the sensible thing I will surely do if I am in this situation. You have to study and practice again, remember, there are 6 months difference between exam sittings..
Good luck, I am also giving F9 this sitting, Good luck to both of us I guess!

September 18, 2013 at 9:16 am #140755Hi, I think I can relate with how you are feeling. I am haveing to retake a paper too, also got 47%! It’s mid september and I honestly have no idea of where or how to start again:especially as I did try my best, given the time constraint i have(sigh!)
September 18, 2013 at 10:11 am #140760@kenie, what are you re-attempting this sitting? Why don’t you just start revising and practicing questions!
Good luck!

September 24, 2013 at 11:48 pm #141238i’m in the same situation like you all i got 43 and was wondering whether to just go straight to the revision lectures on here and then question practice or redo all the lectures, which is kinda daunting as this is my 3rd sitting for it and it’s kinda of hard motivating myself to do this again, any advise?
September 25, 2013 at 2:12 pm #141329My view is that you should concentrate on doing past papers as the first port of call, once you mark them yourself you will see where you are falling down. Once you have identified these areas you could revise the area using the text / notes. Prevents you spending time studying areas that you already know and getting that valuable question practice in!!
Of course thats just my view.September 25, 2013 at 11:03 pm #141388@Celticking76, thanks for that i was thinking along the same line, cause i’ve done it 3 times now, hence my extra mental effort to study the samething all over again. I’ll definately try that. Thanks again.
September 26, 2013 at 12:54 pm #141410Thank you all for your input, I think after some question practice I am now aware of my weak areas and will study these before going back to do past papers.
Hopefully I can get WACC to actually stick in my mind this time! Good luck to all taking exams this sitting too!
