hi, is there a difference between strategic positon and strategic direction? if so please explain the difference.
Strategic position is where you are now: environmental effects, competition, resources etc, and can be summarised on a SWOT analysis.
Strategic direction is not a very commonly used term. It really means the process of strategic planning – what direction do we want the organisation to move in.
So, the strategic position of a company could be that it is a cost leader. If it is finding that too difficult to maintain, it might develop a strategic plan to move up-market through differentiation. That would be its strategic direction ie changing its position.
thanks
