Can you explain intrinsic and extrinsic aids summarily? and the point of having them.
Intrinsic aids are aids within the statute itself – examples include a definition section, the preamble
Extrinsic aids are outside the statute – examples include books of authority, Interpretations Act, Hansard
What’s the point? To assist judges to interpret exactly what a statute is trying to achieve where the statute itself is unclear
