I’ve just started F7, thinking that 6 weeks was enough time to get through the material (I’m also doing F5 and have spent more time on that). I was so wrong. I don’t even know where to start.
I’m using the BPP study text and I feel really thrown in at the deep end with no guidance. I don’t know what’s expected of me in the exam, it looks like 400 pages of rules with no context at all.
So I surmise that chapter 1 of F7 literally follows the last chapter of F3 with no revision chapter at all. If I knew F3 properly would I instantly understand what I needed to know and could apply that knowledge to answer the questions straight away?
Is F7 basically adding huge amounts of detail to the skills learned in F3?I’m thinking now to drop F7 for the time being, do F5 in June as well as revising F3 properly so I can start F7 properly on June 4th. Or is that defeatist?
Can anyone offer me some advice?
April 16, 2013 at 10:36 am #122628I personally think the BPP text goes into to much detail and not enough practice.
Use the notes and videos on here and then just concentrate on past papers.
Good Luck.
April 20, 2013 at 5:55 pm #123029I also bought Bpp for study but finally I realise that it’s time consume with too much details and no practise. Now I use Kaplan for F7 . it’s more easier that BPP. Just use Kaplan material if possible or even download it via internet( if u find an old version is okay). If I were you , having only around a month for the exam u would di the following:
-Read only a)Preparation of FS, b)Consolodated FS, c)Cash Flows and Interpretation and practice them as much as possible !
– Read the passcards of BPP and make sure that u understand them all. Then, go to exam! If u will complete at least 65% of each part I mention above (a,b and c) and have a general understanding of the other questions achieving just 10% of them normally u have passed!
April 20, 2013 at 7:30 pm #123032I also offer to concentrate on pass papers – try to do them all, check what the examiner wanted to see in your answers (check examiners reports and answers for questions). Hopefully, it will bring you more practice. In some time you will feel yourself more confident with going through questions.
April 24, 2013 at 1:40 pm #123408I think you need to remain calm and focused. Have you listened to the lectures on here? Use the notes and listen to the lectures. OT also provides revision lectures for some past papers which are very useful. You have some time to push. If you already think that it’s too much from the start then you’re definitely up for failure. Personally I only use OT, for my passed exams and I have excelled. All the best!
April 29, 2013 at 6:40 am #123825I agree with Rochyroch and Sangria – I listen to Mike on the video lectures here on OT and follow the lecture with the course notes in front of me. Then do the questions from a revision kit – be aware that some of the workings that Mike uses are different in style than the publishers’ methods / layouts ….. but I find that Mike’s workings are easier and still arrive at the correct answer.
You’ll also find that, if you have a question, if you post it on the “Ask the tutor” forum, Mike will get back to you most probably within 2 days. This site is a great service – I find that I am using it a lot and the great thing is ….it’s totally free 🙂
