In a higher education teaching organisation an academic faculty is organised into courses and departments, where teaching staff report both to course programme managers and to subject specialists, depending on which course they teach and upon their particular subject specialism.
According to Charles Handy’s four cultural stereotypes, which of the following describes the above type of organisational structure?Role
Task
Power
Person
Answer is B.
How task culture as they are not flexible?
It should be role culture as chemistry teacher will be teaching chemistry.
In task culture, they would have to do task no matter what role. Mathematics teacher teaching chemistry.April 12, 2022 at 4:23 pm #653174Essentially it is a matrix structure. In that, people tend to work flexibly as they are having to please two bosses.
However, there could be some matrix structures where they are more role culture than task culture. It might be the question is asking you to assess to what extent academics are likely to fit into a rigid role culture.
Either (a) or (b) will be the answer and I think these professional people are more likely to be in a task culture.
