    Hi there,

Thanks for your awesome study materials, lectures and help in general. It’s so much appreciated.

My question is two fold…Firstly, do you have any guidance on a solid study plan for P1? I have looked at the one of the cima website but not sure if this is the best. I need one which incorporates study text reading, on-line lectures and question practise. Do you have any advice for a realistic time-frame to cover all the material before attempting the exam.

As you are aware, P1 is a lot of material to cover and having attempt this exam once before and failed…I know that all the material must be covered in detail as they could test anything. Theory is as heavy weighted as the calculations and therefore exam technique is crucial.

Secondly, any advise on the best way to study for this exam? I have been reading each chapter then doing questions, however time pressure in the exam is tough. Is this just down to practise, practise, practise?

    Thanking you in advance.

    Hi,
Thank you for your positive feedback – we’re glad you have found the Opentuition.com resources useful.

In terms of a solid study plan – it sounds like you are more aware than most of the level of detail CIMA’s objective style exams require.
When you refer to CIMA’s guide – I assumed you’ve seen the CIMA P1 – self-study guide that links to past long form questions and relevant articles. This is available via CIMAconnect or I can post the link if you cant find it.
Also – have you tried the Pearson Vue Practice assessment paper to see what knowledge gaps you may currently have.
I cant really recommend a plan beyond what you are doing – reading through the study text and our notes. Watching the videos – practice as many questions as you can and please post on here if you are stuck with anything.
To prepare fully you should obtain a copy of CIMA P1 syllabus ( dated 2015 – but this still the current one for 2017)- you should be aware that every COMPONENT learning outcome will be tested – so go down the list and ensure you have each one covered.

Also perhaps you might consider posting this sam question in the general student CIMA / operational level forum for advice from those who have passed the exam and been through the same situation as you?

    Kind Regards
    Cath

    Hi Cath,

    Thanks for your reply.

I have downloaded the CIMA P1 self study guide, however just to cover my basis…please post the link here. I think it mentions to cover 150 hours of study, is this more or less accurate?

I will give the Pearson Vue Practice assessment a go as well and I have the component learning outcomes, thanks for pointing this out.

I’ll be sure to post any questions I have and will post my question to the CIMA student forum. I am fully aware of the level of detail but it’s the time constraint that is the big hurdle, 1.5 minutes per question, including calculation questions, is very tough.

    Thanks so much!

    Kind Regards
    La

Hi – Thanks for the reply – yes the exam is very tough and timing is extremely tight – I totally appreciate that. 150 hours sounds a lot and its impossible for me to say for certain without knowledge your level of management accounting knowledge brought forward from previous studies.

The self study guide can be found at
    https://connect.cimaglobal.com/resources/p1/p1-self-study-guide-6907?group=29

There is also a great article regarding practicing questions for CIMA P1: https://connect.cimaglobal.com/system/files/resource/Exam_questions_P1_v2_231015.pdf
Hope you find these useful and good luck with your studies.
    Kind Regards
    Cath
